Garrett Griffin's Biography

Garrett Griffin, born on March 4, 1994, remains a celebrated figure in the realm of American professional football. Equipped with an unwavering determination, Griffin embarked on an exceptional journey from his small-town beginnings as a high school footballer to a recognized professional tight end.

Born and brought up in the small town of Louisburg, Kansas, Griffin’s journey began with grassroots football in his local high school. Louisburg High, Griffin’s alma mater, was where his passion for football took a steadfast shape. Here, he showcased his unparalleled talent as a two-time state champion in javelin throwing. He was also a proud part of the 2010 4A Kansas state champion football team.

During his tenure at Louisburg High, he was under the tutelage of his father, Gary Griffin. This familial connection and hands-on mentorship with his father undoubtedly brought an enriched perspective and contributed enormously to Griffin’s skill development.

On leaving high school, Griffin decided to combine his two passions – education and football – by joining Air Force in 2012. Over the span of four years until 2015, he demonstrated remarkable athletic prowess. He ended his college football career with an impressive record of 41 catches for 678 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Post-college, Griffin’s professional career commenced with the New Orleans Saints who signed him in as an undrafted free agent on June 6, 2016. However, his chapter with the Saints presented a rollercoaster of opportunities. Struggled initially, Griffin was waived by the Saints on September 3, 2016, but offered a place on the practice squad a day later where he spent the entire season.

Despite the challenges, Griffin remained unyielding. His dedication and consistent efforts saw him signing a reserve/future contract with the Saints on January 2, 2017. His career trajectory again faced a slump on September 2, 2017, when he was waived by the Saints and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. However, his resilience was rewarded as he was promoted to the active roster on December 2, 2017.

Griffin made his first competitive appearance in three games in December where he managed a catch for four yards. Unfortunately, he faced a foot injury at the beginning of 2018, which landed him on injured reserve.

The year 2018 also presented a similar path for Griffin. He was waived by the Saints on September 1, 2018, and re-signed to the practice squad a day later. The year 2019 brought an exciting turn as he advanced to the active roster on January 12. Eight days later, he scored his first career touchdown reception in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite an ankle injury in August 2019, Griffin registered a significant comeback in 2020. He was waived by the Saints and re-signed to the practice squad. Later, he was elevated to the active roster for games against the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers. This perseverance led to his re-signing onto the active roster permanently on November 21, 2020.

In December 2020, Griffin saw another round of waiver by the Saints and re-signing to the practice squad three days later. With the dawn of 2021, he was again raised to active participation for the game against the Carolina Panthers and later demoted post-game. However, Griffin’s continued resilience earned him a reserve/future contract with the Saints on January 18, 2021.

Griffin’s professional journey took another stride in March 2022 when he signed with the Detroit Lions. However, he was released in August 2022, and re-signed to the practice squad later that month. Regardless of the numerous challenges, Griffin’s story stands as a testament to his tenacity and passion for football.
