Elijah Molden's Biography

Born on January 30, 1999, in West Linn, Oregon, Elijah Monroe Molden is a professional American footballer, currently playing as a safety for the Los Angeles Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). Raised in a sports-oriented family, Molden learned the value of hard work and discipline from a young age, constantly testing his limits and refining his skills.

Graduating from West Linn High School, Molden showcased unmatched talent in football, alternating between the cornerback and running back positions. Significantly improving his team’s standing, West Linn went from an 8-3 record to a laudable 12-2 mark between Molden’s sophomore and junior years. During his senior year, Molden led West Linn to a perfect 14-0 record, topped by a 62-7 victory in the 6A state championship game.

Molden’s remarkable performance in high school earned him recognition as a nationally ranked recruit. He was listed by ESPN as the number-two ranked prospect in Oregon and the 19th ranked cornerback countrywide. Scout.com and 247Sports.com also honored him with impressive rankings in their evaluations. Despite his father being a University of Oregon football standout, Elijah decided to create his own legacy, ultimately choosing to play college football at the University of Washington.

At the University of Washington, Molden experienced exponential growth under the leadership of Chris Petersen. During his freshman season, he appeared in all 13 games, and played in all games the following year as well, beginning his sophomore season. His agility, power, and control on the field made him stand out, which led to him earning the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player award from his school.

Molden’s junior season was a testament to his consistently excellent performance. He was named the MVP of the Las Vegas Bowl and earned recognition from various institutions for his football prowess and academic commitment. Recognitions included the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team, Pro Football Focus All-America second team, and first-team All-Pac-12 among others. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic curtailing his senior season, Molden started in every game of the four-game season, earning more accolades for his performance both in the field and academics.

After his truncated senior season, Molden announced on December 21, 2020, that he would forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the 2021 NFL draft. In what was a testament to his excellent career profiles, Molden was picked by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft.

His journey with the Tennessee Titans was a memorable run, although it was riddled with injuries and saw him placed on and off the injured reserve several times. Despite the obstacles, Molden managed to play in 15 games, recording 73 tackles, which proved instrumental in numerous Titan victories. However, on August 28, 2024, Molden was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Off the field, Elijah comes from a family of athletes. He is the son of Alex and Christin Molden and the second eldest among eight siblings. His father, a University of Oregon Hall of Fame member, played as an NFL cornerback for eight years, and initially served as a significant source of inspiration for Molden’s journey into professional football.

Elijah’s desire to create his legacy, fueled with relentless passion and hard work, has led him down an illustrious path in football, where he is now renowned as a talented safety for the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL. Nonetheless, his journey is far from over, with much more of his potential yet to be unfolded.
