BIOGRAPHY

Born on the third of September 1997, Devin Singletary, also known by his nickname “Motor,” is an American professional football player who operates as a running back. Currently, he is a prime figure for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL). Having had his run in the college football scene with the Florida Atlantic Owls, Singletary has left a mark in American football history. During his 2017 sophomore season, he led all Division I FBS players with a staggering 32 rushing touchdowns and a collective 33 rushing and receiving touchdowns. In the same period, he recorded 198 points and successfully rushed for 1,920 yards. This performance was significantly instrumental leading to his selection by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. His professional journey also saw him play for the Houston Texans.

In the early days, Singletary pursued high school football at the American Heritage School, located in Delray Beach, Florida. Appreciated as a three-star recruit, Singletary amassed a record of 4,975 rushing yards during his tenure, earning himself two First-Team All-State selections. He then made a conscious decision to join Florida Atlantic University. Throughout his high school football years, Singletary was widely recognized by his childhood nickname “Motor.” This nickname was a shared identity with his father, Jebedial-Danielson Singletary, and uncle, Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

During the 2016 season, Singletary put in a commendable effort, rushing for 1,021 yards on 152 carries, maintaining an average of 6.7 yards per carry, and scoring a total of 12 touchdowns. The following year, his sophomore season in 2017, was monumental. Singletary rushed for 244 and 203 yards against Western Kentucky and Marshall, respectively. Through the 2017 regular season, he outshone all other Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players, scoring 162 points with 27 touchdowns and amassing 1,632 rushing yards. This period also saw him set the Florida Atlantic single-season record for rushing yardage and acquire a place as a semifinalist for the coveted Doak Walker Award.

In a crucial match against North Texas on December 2, 2017, Singletary rushed for 164 yards and scored three touchdowns. This win was further bolstered when he stashed three more touchdowns in the Owls’ 50–3 triumph over Akron in the 2017 Boca Raton Bowl. This elevated his total touchdown count for that year to an impressive 33, composed of 32 rushing and one receiving touchdown.

During the next season, Singletary rushed for 22 touchdowns and accumulated 1,348 rushing yards on 261 attempts. Recognized for his stellar performance, he was named a second-team All-American by Sporting News. As of December 12, 2018, he announced his decision to enter the 2019 NFL draft, thus finishing his college career on a high note as FAU’s all-time rusher and with the sixth-most rushing touchdowns in FBS history.

Singletary’s professional journey was in high gear as he joined the Buffalo Bills in the 2019 NFL Draft with the 74th overall pick. His performance led to McCoy’s release, and he emerged as a substantial figure in the final preseason cuts. His debut on the 8th of September with the Bills was marked by 70 rushing yards on four carries and five receptions for 28 yards, leading to a 17-16 win against the New York Jets.

Following the departure of veteran Frank Gore, Buffalo drafted Zack Moss in the 2020 NFL draft. Singletary shared backfield duties with Moss throughout 2020 but remained the team’s top rusher with 687 yards and two touchdowns. The Bills eventually lost 42-36 in overtime during the Divisional round game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In March 2023, Singletary signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans. He registered a career-high 150 rushing yards and a touchdown during a 30–27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, earning the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. In March 2024, Singletary further moved on to sign a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the New York Giants. Today, his journey serves as an epitome of persistence and hard work in the American football scenario.
