Born on October 10th, 1997, Denzel Mims is an established American professional football wide receiver currently playing as a free agent. Throughout early stages of his life and his professional career, Mims has profoundly exhibited talent and passion on various platforms, marking significant milestones in both his sports and academic pursuits. Raised in Daingerfield, Texas, Mims’ adolescence was nothing short of action-packed, as he juggled his love for wide receiver and safety football positions and participation in track and basketball games whilst attending Daingerfield High School.

After high school, Mims committed to Baylor University to continue his football career at a college level. His freshman year in 2016 was his steppingstone into the college football scene, where he played in 11 games, registering four receptions for 24 yards. Demonstrating top-notch performance and resilience, Mims secured a starting position within the Baylor team in his sophomore year in 2017. He started in 11 out of 12 games, concluding the year with a remarkable record of 61 receptions for 1,087 yards and eight touchdowns.

Mims continued to flourish in his junior year in 2018, starting in 10 of the 12 games and recording meaningful engagement of 55 receptions for 794 yards and an equal number of touchdowns as his sophomore year. Mims’ senior year in 2019 presented him with the opportunity to play in all 13 games for Baylor. He managed 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and made an incredible record of 12 touchdowns.

The final game of his collegiate career put Mims in the limelight during the 2020 Sugar Bowl. The game, which was between the Baylor Bears and the Georgia Bulldogs, saw Mims register an impressive performance despite their loss with a score of 26–14 to Georgia. However, he led the Baylor offense in receiving yards to finish with five receptions for 75 yards, scoring the team’s single receiving touchdown.

A significant milestone in Mims’ career was his selection by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL draft’s second round. He was picked as the 59th overall pick. Unfortunately, Mims suffered a hamstring injury that saw him miss most training camp and placed him under injured reserve on September 15, 2020. He returned to active duty on October 24, marking his NFL debut in Week 7. During a game against the Buffalo Bills, he made four receptions for 42 receiving yards.

Mims’ journey in the New York Jets was not entirely smooth sailing. He missed a game in the 14th week due to personal issues and later requested a trade from the Jets on August 25, 2022. His request emanated from his dissatisfaction with the Jets’ treatment, claiming that the Jets were not giving Mims a good opportunity to establish himself within the offense. Despite not getting the trade he requested, Mims played 10 games (4 starts) for the Jets in 2022, securing 11 catches for 186 yards, but no touchdowns.

Further developments in Mims’ career saw his transition to the Detroit Lions on July 20, 2023. The trade included a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2025 NFL draft in exchange for a 2025 conditional sixth-round draft selection. Regrettably, Mims’ tenure with the Lions was short-lived as he was waived/injured on August 18, 2023.

On October 3, 2023, Mims inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, joining their practice squad. He later signed a reserve/futures contract on January 17, 2024. However, the contract was short-lived as he was waived on June 19, 2024. On the following day, Mims agreed to join the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released on August 25 of the same year. Despite facing several adversities throughout his career, Denzel Mims is continually recognized as a dedicated and influential figure in professional football.
