Delontae Scott's Biography
Delontae Scott’s journey to professional American football has been marked by skill, determination, and persistence. Born on January 21, 1997, Scott’s career has led him to play as an outside linebacker for the San Antonio Brahmas, a team in the United Football League (UFL).
His initial strides into football began on the college field at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Here, he played as a valuable part of the SMU Mustangs for five seasons. Despite redshirting his first year, an experience that allows athletes to extend their eligibility period by not participating in games for their initial year, Scott soon made his mark on the field.
In his final year as a redshirt senior, Scott displayed his prowess brilliantly as he achieved 10 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and caused three forced fumbles. Recognizing his athleticism, agility, and raw talent, he received the honor of being named a second-team All-American Athletic Conference member.
By the end of his college career, Scott had notched up impressive stats in 40 games played – a whopping 97 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, and five forced fumbles. His potential was evident and didn’t go unnoticed.
Scott took his first step into professional football with the Green Bay Packers, signing on as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2020. However, after a mere four months, he was waived on September 5 and transitioned to the practice squad the next day.
Despite his talent, Scott faced another setback as he was placed on the practice squad injured list on December 15, 2020. Several weeks later on January 25, 2021, he was offered a ray of hope in the form of a reserve/futures contract with the Packers. But as the end of training camp approached in August 2021, Scott was once again waived.
Not one to be discouraged, Scott began a new chapter with the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 7, 2021, where he began training on the practice squad. His determination and skill did not go unnoticed, and he was elevated to the active roster on November 21, just in time for the Steelers’ Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. His performance solidified his place on the team, and he signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on January 18, 2022.
Turbulence returned to Scott’s career as he was waived by the Steelers on August 30, 2022, only to be re-signed to the practice squad shortly after. Unfortunately, this stint proved short-lived as he was released on September 27, 2022.
Thus began another phase of Scott’s career with the Carolina Panthers, during which he joined their practice squad on October 18, 2022. Nevertheless, his tenure there was brief, and he was released on November 7, 2022.
Starting 2023 with new prospects, the San Antonio Brahmas selected Scott in the fourth round of the XFL Supplemental Draft. However, destiny had different plans for him, and he was released from this contract on August 15, 2023.
Scott’s football journey next bought him to the Atlanta Falcons, signing with them on August 16, 2023. His time with the Falcons was brief, and he was again released just ten days after on August 26.
Deciding to return to a familiar team, Scott re-signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 22, 2024. As a San Antonio Brahma, he is back in the position of an outside linebacker where his journey began. Despite multiple hitches and transfers over the years, he continues to prove his professional worth in the field of American football.
