Dean Marlowe's Biography

Dean Marlowe, originally from New York City, was born on July 25, 1992. Marlowe is an American football safety who became noteworthy during his high school and college football career, leading him to the esteemed professional world of NFL.

Marlowe was a respected athletic student at the Holy Cross High School based in Queens, New York, which supplied him with the opportunity and platform to compete in high school football for their varsity squad, the Knights. Excelling in dual roles as a quarterback and safety, Marlowe demonstrated an undeniable natural talent for the sport. Notably, he and Stanford wide receiver Devon Cajuste played an instrumental role in their school’s commendable advance to the CHSAA Semi final game, where the Knights were defeated, 27–7, by the highly-ranked St. Anthony’s team.

Subsequent to his high school graduation, Dean Marlowe commenced an impressive college football career at James Madison University, and his enrolment coincided with earning a two-star rating from Rivals. Between 2011 and 2014, Marlowe represented the James Madison Dukes, have been redshirted in 2010, and accumulated career totals of 326 tackles, 12 interceptions and 30 passes defended over an impressive 48 games. His performances didn’t go unrecognized as he earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors on four separate occasions.

As the 2015 NFL draft concluded, Marlowe took a significant leap in his career by joining the professional league. Despite being undrafted, Marlowe was signed by the Carolina Panthers as a free agent. He officially joined the Carolina Panthers on September 5, 2015, making it onto the team’s 53-man roster.

In his first NFL season, Marlowe was part of the Panthers team that competed in Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016. However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, he was inactive for the game and the Panthers were defeated by the Denver Broncos, 24–10.

Marlowe’s professional career with the Panthers was plagued by injuries, with a hamstring injury in September 2016 resulting in him being placed on injured reserve. By August 2017, the Panthers finally decided to waive Marlowe due to frequent injuries.

In a twist of fate, Marlowe was signed to the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills in December 2017 and was subsequently offered a reserve/future contract with the Bills in January 2018. Throughout his time with the Bills, Marlowe had several ups and downs, moving between the active roster and the practice squad.

In March 2020, Marlowe secured another contract with the Buffalo Bills. A major highlight of his career occurred during Week 8 of the 2020 season against the New England Patriots, Marlowe made a crucial fumble recovery that resulted in a 24-21 Bills’ win.

In April 2021, Marlowe was signed by the Detroit Lions. He had a productive season, featuring in 16 games, starting in nine, and recording 67 tackles with two passes defense.

After a year with the Lions, Marlowe signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons in March 2022. Marlowe ended up being traded by the Falcons to the Bills for a 2023 7th-round draft pick in November 2022. He was released by the Bills in August 2023 before being signed by the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad just a few days after.

Marlowe’s consistent perseverance, tenacity, and talent have established him as a recognized contributor in the world of professional American football.
