Anthony Firkser

Anthony Paul Firkser was born in Englishtown, New Jersey, on February 19, 1995. He is the son of Alex and Donna Firkser, a Jewish family committed to their faith and active in their local community, Temple Shaari Emeth in Manalapan. At a tender age, Firkser demonstrated remarkable multi-sports talent. He thrived in basketball and football, earning several accolades as a student-athlete at Manalapan High School.

During high school, Firkser averaged 21.3 points in basketball while providing remarkable team leadership as the point guard. He also played a vital role in football, his school team registering an impressive 30-6 win record during his three-year high school career. In his senior year, Firkser, who was named the Shore Conference ‘A’ North Division Offensive Player of the Year, played an instrumental role as his team clinched the NJSIAA Central Jersey title.

In 2013, Firkser represented Team USA as a guard at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, culminating in a gold medal victory. Around the same time, Firkser committed to Harvard University on October 17, 2012, where he played both football and basketball, while diligently pursuing a degree in Applied Mathematics. He achieved astonishing records while playing football for Harvard, catching 45 passes in 10 games as a senior, his brilliant performances resulted in him being named to the All-Ivy League first-team.

After graduation in 2017, Firkser looked towards the NFL, with scouts projecting him for a role as a fullback/tight end hybrid player within the National League. His resilience and adaptability, coupled with his excellent analytical skills — likely honed from his degree in applied mathematics, saw him pass the Harvard Pro Day test by exhibiting masterful ball-handling skills.

Firkser’s NFL journey commenced when he signed with the New York Jets in May 2017. After some initial hiccups, Firkser found his footing in the NFL. He played for several teams throughout his career, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, and Detroit Lions. He proved his worth in crucial matches by scoring touchdowns, catching passes, and establishing significant records, including recording his first career 100-yard receiving game in a 42–36 overtime victory against the Houston Texans in Week 6 of the 2020 season.

Firkser’s unique character and skewness towards the game was most prominently displayed during the 2019 Titans season where they clinched a 9–7 record and secured the sixth seed in the AFC playoffs. He was a contributing factor to the unexpected victory against the defending Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. His 22-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship remains a notable highlight of his career.

Over the years, Firkser has maintained a healthy balance between his sports career and his academic prowess. During his 2018 offseason, he showed dedication towards his post-football career by participating in actuarial credential exams, demonstrating his profound interest in actuarial work and showcasing his mathematical expertise outside the football field.
