Davis Webb

Davis Matthew Webb, born on January 22, 1995, is a renowned American football coach and a former established quarterback. He currently holds the esteemed position as the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). Webb has a rich history in football dating back to his college years where he developed his skills and carved a path that led him to the NFL.

To better understand his background, we need to travel back to his high school years when Webb began his football journey. After attending Keller High School, he transferred to Prosper High School in Texas where his skills started to shine. He managed to lead his team to the district championship and a berth in the Texas 4A regional semifinals. Known for his stellar performances, Webb was recognized with several awards including being named first-team All-District as a junior and honorable mention All-State. When he graduated from Prosper, he had passed for 2,658 yards, rushed for 589 yards, and scored 36 touchdowns. His impressive performance earned him a 4-star prospect ranking by ESPN.

Webb’s promising football career continued at Texas Tech University where he played for the Red Raiders. Initially serving as a backup quarterback behind fellow freshman Baker Mayfield, Webb earned his place as a starter during his freshman year in 2013. He was only the second true freshman ever to play the position for the school. His first appearance saw him throw the winning touchdown against TCU, setting the stage for a successful career. After an injury to Mayfield, Webb made his first career start against Iowa State, passing for 415 yards and three touchdowns.

His success didn’t stop there. He continued to shatter records when he set a Big 12 Conference freshman passing record in a game against West Virginia. Webb passed for 462 yards, with 36-50 attempts and two touchdowns, making him the first quarterback in school history to pass over 400 yards twice in his freshman season. Despite some challenges, Webb finished his freshman year with numerous Big 12 Conference freshman records and honorable mentions.

In 2014, Webb had been named the starting quarterback. He started off strongly until a season-ending ankle injury during a game against TCU forced him to step back. Webb eventually transferred from Texas Tech to the University of California, Berkeley, where he completed 382 of 620 passes in one season at California, setting several school records. His exceptional performances made him a semi-finalist for both the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award among other recognitions.

Webb’s collegiate success led him to be selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft by the New York Giants. Though he did not see significant game action with the Giants, he was highly praised by his teammates and even drew attention as the potential future starter. Despite high hopes, Webb was waived by the Giants in 2018.

He then joined the New York Jets, and though he did not see any action with the team, his career took a significant turn when he was signed by the Buffalo Bills in 2019. However, his first active NFL game would not come until 2021, after more than two years with the Bills. Sadly, his performance in this game would be the only highlight of his playing career.

Following the end of his playing career, Webb transitioned into coaching. In February 2023, he was appointed as the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos. His passion for the sport, knowledge of the game, and leadership qualities have earned him respect and recognition in football.

With seven seasons in the NFL under his belt and valuable time spent with three New York teams, Davis Webb’s notable experiences have equipped him to train and nurture future quarterbacks.
