Curtis Bolton's Biography
Curtis Giles Charles Bolton III, better known as Bolton, was born on December 18, 1995 and had since embarked on a career in professional football. Bolton’s discipline was impeccable, and he demonstrated an enviable talent in the linebacker position, landing him a spot with the prestigious New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).
Prior to his professional career, Bolton was a formidable player at the university level, representing Oklahoma’s football team. His senior season there was a tour de force; he managed to rack up 109 tackles, which included an impressive 29 for loss, and 13 sacks. His contributions were vital to the team’s success and they didn’t go unnoticed, as he was honored with the title of defensive MVP of the Southwestern league.
Bolton remained loyal to Oklahoma, choosing them over numerous offers from other reputable teams including Arizona and Fresno State. His last season at Oklahoma was a memorable one, recording remarkable statistics of 138 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 2 pass deflected.
Unfortunately for Bolton, he was not drafted and signed with the Green Bay Packers, where he began his professional career. In what seemed like an auspicious start, Bolton managed 8 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception in the first two preseason games. However, adversity hit when Bolton suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in a subsequent preseason practice. As a result, he was relegated to the injured reserve list, a setback that ended his season.
Despite the injury, Bolton showed resilience, joining the training camp in July 31, 2020, now on the PUP list. Unfortunately, his circumstance was elevated to the reserve/PUP list on September. Following a seemingly unresolved injury situation, Bolton was released by the Packers in October 2020.
Severely determined, Bolton was relentless in his pursuit of football glory and signed to the practice squad of the Houston Texans in November. By January 4, 2021, he signed a reserve/future contract. However, he was released in March the same year.
Bolton’s journey was challenging, yet full of lessons. Following his stint with the Texans, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in August 2021, only to be waived later that month and re-signed to the practice squad, but was released yet again two days later.
Bolton continued seeking opportunities to showcase his talent, signing on to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad in September 2021. His tenure was short and he was soon released in October, but he didn’t lose faith. In December 2021, he signed with the Detroit Lions practice squad, and finally made his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos later that month. By December 28, he had been promoted to the active roster.
Even though he was waived by the Lions in April the following year, it wasn’t the end of Bolton’s journey. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in August 2022 only to be waived yet again later that month. However, his persistence paid off when he was retained in the practice squad and then promoted to the active roster in October. On November 10, he was promoted to the same roster.
Bolton re-signed with the Raiders in March 2023. Despite being placed on the injured reserve list in September, by the end of October he had been activated again.
By July 2024, Bolton had signed with the Miami Dolphins only to be released a month later. Never one to back down, Bolton then signed with the New York Giants in August 2024. Despite being waived in September, he was re-signed to the practice squad just two days later, completing the chapter of Bolton’s extraordinary journey through the NFL landscape.
