Chris Hubbard's Biography

Christopher Hubbard was born on April 23, 1991. From a young age, he was interested in sports especially football, which saw him play the sport from high school through university and up to the professional stage, competing at the biggest stage for American football – the National Football League (NFL).

Hubbard began his football career at George Washington Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia. His high school career was characterized by excellent performance where he started at left tackle during his junior and senior years. His performance contributed to his team’s stellar record of 26-3, leading to them winning the 2007 Georgia High School Association Class AAA state championship. With 77 pancake blocks in his senior year alone, Hubbard was named to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer All-City team and the Associated Press Class AAA first-team All-State team.

After high school, Hubbard channeled his prowess in football into his college years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, playing for the UAB Blazers from 2009 to 2012. Upon joining the team in 2009, he was immediately recognized and named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. By 2012, his athletic abilities at the right tackle position earned him a reselection to the All-Conference USA team.

In the wake of the 2013 NFL draft where Hubbard was left undrafted, the Pittsburgh Steelers took a chance on him, signing him up as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2013. However, he was let go on August 31, only to be signed back to the Steelers’ practice squad a few days later on September 3. Hubbard was later offered a futures contract on December 31, 2013. He made his NFL debut the following year, on September 21, 2014, against the Carolina Panthers. Despite struggles that led to being cut off by the Steelers on August 19, 2016, Hubbard still managed to leave an imprint.

On October 9, 2016, Hubbard had his first career start, substituting right tackle Marcus Gilbert against the New York Jets. After putting in 76 offensive snaps, his excellent play was instrumental in the Steelers’ 31–13 win. His performance elicited positive reviews and praise from coaches Mike Tomlin, Todd Haley, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The Cleveland Browns signed Hubbard to a five-year, $37.5 million contract with $15.15 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $4 million on March 15, 2018. He started all 16 games as the Browns’ starting right tackle. Despite being demoted to backup offensive tackle and guard in 2019 and dealing with a knee injury in 2020, Hubbard persisted, restructuring his contract and continued playing for the Browns until 2021.

Tennessee Titans welcomed Hubbard into their team in July 2023, although his stint with the Titans was limited due to a biceps injury in November of the same year. Then, on May 14, 2024, Hubbard signed with the San Francisco 49ers but was released later that August. He rejoined the 49ers’ practice squad on September 11, 2024.

Off the football field, Hubbard leads a quiet family life. In 2012, he married Tamara Hubbard and together they welcomed their son, Creed Eason, in September 2016. His journey, both in football and personal life, epitomizes the spirit of resilience and perseverance, characteristics that can inspire many both on and off the football field.
