Casey Hayward's Biography

Casey Hayward Jr., born on September 9, 1989, is an assertive and focused football player who operates as a cornerback in the NFL. His football journey began in his hometown in Georgia, Perry, where he was a multi-sport star in his high school. He flexed his athletic muscles extensively in football, basketball, and track, setting the stage for a prosperous career in football. Football became his primary focus and he became a prominent quarterback for three years. Despite his prowess in football, he also achieved commendable feats in track & field, mainly in sprints and jumps.

Upon graduating from high school, Casey turned down several offers from various universities, choosing to attend Vanderbilt University due to the school’s sterling academic reputation and membership in the Southeastern Conference. During his time at Vanderbilt, he played well as both a Nickelback and on special teams, quickly establishing himself as a valued defensive asset due to his tackle and interception stats. Moulding himself steadily into a formidable defender, he ranked first in the SEC and third in the NCAA for passes defended in his junior season.

Casey’s dedication to football crystallized in his senior year when he was named a second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, becoming the first Vanderbilt All-American in four years. After being named a mid-season All-American by Sports Illustrated, Casey declared for the 2012 NFL Draft. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round, becoming the highest defensive back drafted from Vanderbilt since Fred Vinson in 1999. His entry into the NFL was a product of his exceptional defensive qualities, including good footwork, an ability to recognize routes, and strong instincts.

In 2012, Casey was signed to a four-year contract by the Packers and quickly made his mark as a valuable team member. His first year ended with him being named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. The succeeding year saw him sidelined by a hamstring injury for most of the season. He returned in 2014 in competitive form and ended up scoring his first touchdown.

In 2015, Casey became a starting cornerback for the Packers, following the departure of Tramon Williams and Davon House. After a successful season in which he led the team in tackles, he became an unrestricted free agent in 2016, much to the surprise of his teammates and himself. In March 2016, he was signed by the San Diego Chargers to a three-year contract, providing him with an opportunity to showcase his skills on a different platform.

However, Casey remained a free agent, having had short stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons after his time with the Packers and Chargers. Undeterred by the changing landscapes, Casey continued to appreciate the journey and revere the sport that had molded him into an astute athlete and person. His trailblazing performance on the field, coupled with his unwavering dedication off the field, continues to bolster his reputation as a prominent figure in American Football.
