Cameron Dantzler Sr., born on September 3, 1998, is an accomplished American professional football quarterback who currently plies his trade for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, a team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Over the course of his career, Dantzler has left an indelible mark on the sport, earning both individual recognition and collective success.

Hailing from Hammond, Louisiana, Dantzler’s skills began to shine while attending Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. There, he served as a dual-threat athlete, playing both quarterback and cornerback. Though his multi-faceted talents were evident from the outset, Dantzler’s senior year was nothing short of phenomenal with his successful completion of 1,381 yards, 11 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 1,901 yards and scoring a whopping 26 touchdowns.

Eager to pursue a career in college football, Dantzler committed to Mississippi State University. His stint at Mississippi State demonstrated his potential and brought him to national attention. Dantzler redshirted his true freshman season, only to bounce back as a phenomenal performer in the Bulldogs’ team. He played in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman, concluding the season with 25 impressive tackles including two for loss, four passes defended, and an interception.

Dantzler did not rest on his laurels going into his redshirt sophomore season. His excellent performance in this season included a total of 43 tackles, a sack, two interceptions, and a team-leading 11 passes defended. His exceptional performance garnered him a spot as the second-team All-Southeastern Conference by the Associated Press. In addition, he achieved a remarkable feat of not allowing a single touchdown pass, maintaining a 41.1 passer rating according to Pro Football Focus.

His redshirt junior season only built upon his growing reputation. Dantzler was watched closely, possibly in the running for significant awards such as the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Jim Thorpe Awards. Phil Steele took special note of his performance, listing him as a preseason All-American. Dantzler, after having an excellent year with 2 interceptions and 10 passes defended in 2019, gave up his last year of eligibility to declare for the NFL draft of 2020.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, Dantzler was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round at the 89th overall. Despite a brief COVID-19 related absence from the team, Dantzler was activated three days after being placed on the reserve list, and soon earned a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
