Cameron Sample is an exceptional talent etched in the landscape of American professional football. Born on September 20, 1999, Sample has made remarkable strides in his journey in football, progressively etching his name in the annals of the sport on both the college front and now in the professional realm.
A Snellville, Georgia native, Sample showed his enthusiasm towards football at a young age and had devoted much of his adolescent life to the sport. He attended Shiloh High School, where his palpable talent in the sport was rapidly recognized and fostered. His obvious aptitude for the game allowed him to excel rapidly, earning him a two-star rating as a recruit. Choices abounded for Sample, problems that only the most talented players face. Initially committing to play at Georgia Southern, Cameron saw a more fitting home at Tulane, where he decided to play his college football.
Parsing through his college years, Sample demonstrated his potential from the onset of his freshman year. He made rapid strides, exceeding more established peers with his burgeoning skill set. In his prime time as a freshman, Cameron played in 11 games, starting in three of them and further establishing his name in the Tulane football scene.
As a sophomore, he took his performance up a notch; Sample seized a commanding role by starting 11 games and accomplished four sacks in his second season. He was setting himself apart, steadily progressing in his stellar career despite some hurdles on the way.
While nagging injuries slowed him down a bit in his junior year, Sample’s willpower and determination bolstered him to persevere. Despite his physical impediments, he impressively played in all 13 of Tulane’s games, contributing to the team with 44 total tackles.
Reaching his senior season, Sample excelled in his own terms, reaching the peak of his potential. He concluded the chapter of his college football career with a resounding performance; 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. This brilliance in his performance didn’t go unnoticed as he was honored with a first-team All-American Athletic Conference nomination.
His outstanding performance fueled his journey to the professional football stage. During the 2021 NFL (National Football League) draft, Sample was picked in the fourth round – 111th overall – by the Cincinnati Bengals, marking the initiation of his professional football career. Just a month after, on May 17, he solidified his transition by signing his four-year rookie contract with Cincinnati, showing his eagerness to contribute to the team’s successes.
However, a blow struck on August 5, 2024, when it was announced that Sample suffered a torn Achilles tendon that subsequently ended his season. Despite this setback, Sample’s career still boasts of significant achievements, leaving an indelible mark on football history. His journey reflects resilience, dedication, and exceptional talent, chronicling the road of a football star who has much more in the pipeline.
