BIOGRAPHY
Brayden Thomas graces the professional American football scene as a reputable linebacker, currently associated with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a Canadian Football League (CFL) team. Born on March 20, 1998, Brayden Thomas owes the genesis of his football career to three valued institutions: the University of Mary, Minnesota State, and North Dakota State. These esteemed tertiary establishments in the United States afforded Thomas the playingtime and training necessary to develop, perfect, and ultimately showcase his football prowess.
A native of Bismarck, North Dakota, Brayden Thomas’ early life was richly infused with sports, fostering his affinity for football. His potential was evident during his high school years at Bismarck High School, where he demonstrated a knack for physical sports, particularly football, setting the stage for his forthcoming football career.
The University of Mary was Thomas’ first port of call, marking the commencement of his professional football journey. His impressive performances with the Marauders during his first season were not ignored, earning him a transfer to Minnesota State – Mankato. Now a key player at a larger stage, Thomas blossomed, getting recognized as a second-team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in his junior year. His stats were noteworthy, recording 21 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. Unfortunately, his senior-year run was truncated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thomas’ immersion in college football took another turn after his senior season, moving to North Dakota State as a graduate transfer. Recognizing the potential to utilize an extra year of eligibility—courtesy of the coronavirus pandemic—Thomas decided to extend his playtime by returning for an unexpected sixth season at NDSU. Thomas blitzed his final collegiate year, recording nine sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss, and received first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors.
As the curtains closed on his college football era, Thomas stepped onto an even bigger stage, signing up with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2022. Though he was waived after the final roster cuts on August 30, 2022, the Rams promptly signed him to their practice squad the following day. By December 2022, Thomas had risen up the ranks to the active roster, making his National Football League (NFL) debut in week 16 against the Denver Broncos. On January 9, 2023, he secured a reserve/futures contract.
Unfortunately, Thomas’s time with the Rams came to an abrupt termination when he was waived on March 10, 2023. Nonetheless, this path led to a new opportunity, as Thomas found himself a new professional home north of the border. On September 12, 2023, Thomas breathed new life into his professional football career, signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a remarkable team of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
In essence, Brayden Thomas has firmly etched his name into the sands of American football. From Bismarck High School to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Thomas’ football journey has been an impressive roller-coaster of challenges overcome and immense growth achieved. His passion, ability to adapt, and resilience amidst adversity make Thomas a promising addition to the CFL, with high expectations for the future.
