Amari Jai Rodgers, a renowned American football wide receiver, was born on September 23, 1999, and currently plays for the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL). From an early college career at Clemson to being drafted by the Green Bay Packers and eventually landing in Houston, Rodgers’ journey remains testament to his grit, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his craft.

As a young athlete, Rodgers’ illustrious career began at Knoxville Catholic High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. Growing in his senior year, Rodgers recorded an impressive 40 receptions for 1,238 yards with 18 touchdowns. Throughout his high school career, Rodgers managed to accumulate 3,498 receiving yards with 47 touchdowns, showcasing his early potential in the sport. His prowess did not go unnoticed – he was touted as a four-star recruit and ranked as the 16th best wide receiver recruit in the nation by the 247Sports.com Composite.

Before stepping on to the bigger stage, Rodgers initially committed to the University of Southern California. However, he eventually flipped and accepted an offer from Clemson University in a dramatic late-season decision. His freshman year at Clemson in 2017 found him securing 19 receptions for 123 yards. His upward trajectory continued as he augmented his performance during his sophomore year, where he accomplished 55 impressive catches for 575 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a punt that was also returned for a touchdown.

Amari Rodgers faced a significant setback in 2019, when an ACL tear forced him to miss the first game of his junior season. Despite the injury, Rodgers rebounded and emerged stronger, completing his junior year with 30 receptions, totalling 426 yards, and 4 touchdowns. After the season concluded, he announced he would be coming back for his senior season, forgoing the opportunity to enter the 2020 NFL draft. His senior year was monumental, catching 77 passes that racked up 1,020 yards along with 7 touchdowns.

Rodgers’ transition to the professional world saw him being selected by the Green Bay Packers during the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 85th overall pick, a testament to his burgeoning talent. The Packers traded their 92nd and 135th overall picks to the Tennessee Titans in a strategic move to secure Rodgers. He signed a four-year rookie contract later that year, his deal totalling $4.89 million, inclusive of a $923,000 signing bonus.

His first NFL action was against the New Orleans Saints on September 12, 2021. Rodgers recorded one catch for 19 yards in the match, which unfortunately ended in a 38–3 loss. His performance throughout the season saw him amass 169 yards off punt returns and 199 yards off kickoff, with a longest catch being 23 and 27 yards, respectively.

Despite his promising start, Rodgers’ second season was marked by inconsistency. However, he still displayed an impressive run, nearing his 2021 totals in just over half a season, returning 139 yards off punt returns and 122 off kickoffs by week 10. It is during a game against the Dallas Cowboys that Rodgers’ struggle came to the forefront. After losing his seventh fumble during a punt return, the head coach decided to bench Rodgers. Two days after the game, Packers released him.

In a surprising turn of events, the Houston Texans claimed Rodgers off waivers on November 16, 2022. On December 11, Rodgers managed to score his first career touchdown with a 28–yard reception from Jeff Driskel. He ended the season with 16 receptions, 204 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. However, in July 2023, Rodgers was suddenly waived by the Houston Texans.

Barely a week later, Rodgers was signed by the Indianapolis Colts only to be waived again towards the end of August. He was then re-signed back to the practice squad and was eventually added to the active roster in October. However, Rodgers was waived again shortly after.

Finally, Rodgers was signed by the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) on December 22, 2023. Notably, Rodgers is the son of football coach Tee Martin and maintains a close friendship with former Packers teammate Randall Cobb.
