Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot's Biography

Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot is a professional basketball player born in France on the 9th of May in 1995. Known for his skills and expertise in the sport, he has a reputation as an international player who has played for a series of notable teams across different leagues. Currently, he is a member of Saski Baskonia, which is part of the ACB league and the EuroLeague.

Before his rise to prominence in professional basketball, Luwawu-Cabarrot’s career began with the Antibes Sharks, where he played five games between 2012 and 2014. He signed his first professional deal with the same team in January 2014 and became a full squad member for the first time that same year. Throughout the 42 games he played for them, he averaged 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Furthermore, he contributed to the team’s victory in the LNB Pro B Leaders Cup.

In 2015, Luwawu-Cabarrot made a bold transition by signing with Mega Leks, a Serbian team for the 2015–16 season. His stint with the team bolstered his skills and profile, culminating in their win of the Serbian Cup. He made impressive strides throughout the season, earning All-ABA League Team honors and averaging 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

The next chapter of his career started in 2016 when he declared for the NBA draft, which resulted in his selection as the 24th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. His rookie season was equally accomplished, with him scoring a season-best 24 points in a match against the Indiana Pacers.

Over the years, Luwawu-Cabarrot had undergone multiple transfers and was part of several high-profile NBA teams. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2018 and subsequently to the Chicago Bulls in 2019. He briefly joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019, but he was eventually signed off to the Brooklyn Nets, where he also signed a multi-year contract.

In 2021, Luwawu-Cabarrot signed with the Atlanta Hawks, then with the Phoenix Suns in 2022. However, despite playing in a few preseason games, he was waived in October the same year. He then returned to Europe later that year, joining the powerful Italian and EuroLeague team, Olimpia Milano.

In April 2023, he parted ways with Milano and returned to his native France to sign a one-year deal with ASVEL, a team part of the LNB Pro A and EuroLeague.

Apart from his professional basketball career, Luwawu-Cabarrot has also represented French national basketball teams. He played in both the 2014 and 2015 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championships. In the latter year, he helped France reach the semifinals, with average scores of 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. His significant basketball career was also highlighted by representing the French national basketball team, which placed second in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
