Ryan Rollins

Ryan Anthony Rollins, an elite player in the world of professional basketball, was born on July 3, 2002, in Detroit, Michigan. He currently holds a pivotal role in the team dynamics of the Milwaukee Bucks, part of the National Basketball Association (NBA), while also on a dual contract with the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League. This exceptional athlete’s journey through the sport didn’t start here. Ryan’s notable performance in college basketball carved the path to his professional career. The years he spent playing college basketball for the Toledo Rockets were the cornerstone of the basketball player he is today.

Raised in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, Ryan’s love for basketball prompted him to make it a part of his school life. He showcased his skills within the confines of Dakota High School in Macomb Township, Michigan. Despite battling a hamstring injury that resulted in missing the second half of the season, his junior year statistics speak volumes about the athlete’s prowess, averaging 17.1 points, seven rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. His senior year saw an escalation in his game, earning him second-team All-State honors from the Associated Press. This fruitful year ended with him averaging 25.5 points, nine rebounds, and five assists per game.

When it came to choosing a college, Ryan, a three-star recruit, committed to the Toledo Rockets. This was influenced by the early prioritization and commitment shown to him by the college during the recruiting process. Once at Toledo, he quickly made his mark, making a noticeable impact in his freshman year. A steady record of 13.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game won him the title of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman of the Year after helping his team gain the MAC regular season title.

With the transfer of Marreon Jackson in his sophomore year, Ryan stepped into a leading role. On November 24, 2021, he scored a career-high 35 points in a 79–70 victory over Coastal Carolina, winning the Nassau Championship. Rollins’ excellent performance continued, helping Toledo repeat as MAC regular season champions. As a sophomore, he averaged 18.9 points, six rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, earning first-team All-MAC honors.

His successful college career culminated when, on April 7, 2022, Rollins declared for the 2022 NBA Draft, all the while maintaining his college eligibility. Ultimately, he decided to remain in the draft, thereby forgoing his remaining college eligibility. Ryan’s name was called by the Atlanta Hawks as the 44th overall pick. He was soon traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the draft rights to Tyrese Martin, the 51st pick in the draft, and cash considerations.

Rollins’ career with the Warriors was put on hold when a right foot injury kept him from playing in the NBA Summer League. The injury later led to season-ending surgery on his Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. His stint with the Warriors ended on July 6, 2023, when he was traded alongside Jordan Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and draft picks, to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul. The following year on February 21, 2024, after a brief period of being waived, Rollins entered into a two–year, two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Away from the court, Ryan’s life is watched over by his mother Toni, his father Chris, and his brother Christopher. Christopher also possesses a knack for the sport, having played college basketball for Davenport. However, Ryan’s life also saw an unfortunate incident; the athlete was charged with seven counts of petit larceny on January 12, 2024, when he was caught shoplifting household items from a local Target store. Despite this misstep, Ryan continues to be a prominent figure within the realm of professional basketball.
