Onyeka Okongwu is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on December 5, 2000, in Los Angeles County, California. His parents are Imade and Nkechi. Growing up in Los Angeles County gave him access to some of the best basketball facilities and training centers in the country.

Okongwu attended Chino Hills High School where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the top high school prospects in the nation by his junior year. During his senior year he averaged 26 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks per game while leading his team to a 22-7 record and reaching California’s Division I quarterfinals. After graduating from high school he committed to play college basketball at USC starting from 2019-2020 season under head coach Andy Enfield . As a freshman at USC Okongwu had an impressive season averaging 16 points per game with 8.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on 61% shooting from field goal range along side other first round draft picks teammates like Isaiah Mobley and Evan Mobley who both got drafted into NBA this year 2020 .

In April 2020 after only one season playing with USC Onyeka declared for Draft eligible into NBA which made him one sixth overall pick of Atlanta Hawks , joining Trae Young , John Collins , Cam Reddish & De’Andre Hunter creating one of most talented young core in NBA . With only 20 years old still Onyeka is expected to take big part off this team alongside Trae Young who already established himself as one NBA’s best Point Guard .
