BIOGRAPHY

Jeffrey Lee Dowtin Jr., born May 10, 1997, is acknowledged as an accomplished American professional basketball player who skilfully rosters for the Philadelphia 76ers in the renowned National Basketball Association (NBA). Besides, Dowtin also enjoys the prestige of a two-way contract with the Delaware Blue Coats which operates under the NBA G League. The stories of his commendable performances in the game extend back to his times playing college basketball for the Rhode Island Rams.

In his early days, Dowtin attended St. John’s College, where his athletic talents started to bloom. As a senior, he earned quite a reputation for his remarkable performance, averaging 15.3 points and five assists per game, which eagerly contributed to the impressive Cadets’ record of a 29-5, including a 16-2 mark in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. His exceptional play saw him being named to the 2015-16 Washington Post All-Met Second Team, besides earning All-DCSAA and All-WCAC honors.

As Dowtin’s skills magnified, his potential didn’t go unnoticed. In 2016, prominent platforms in the sports field – Scout, Rivals, and ESPN labeled him as a three-star recruit. He was recognized by ESPN as the 43rd best point guard nationally and distinguished as the 21st best combo guard by 247Sports.

During his college career at Rhode Island, Dowtin’s abilities carried on to amplify. He participated in 128 games overall, where he consistently pitched an average of 11 points, along with 2.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and an admirable steal. His shooting abilities were also notable with a 44.7% success rate from the field and 36.1% from behind the 3-point line. Dowtin also significantly contributed to securing two NCAA tournament appearances for the Rams in 2017 and 2018. In his final year, his average significantly escalated to 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, marking his deserved place in the All-Atlantic 10 third team.

The 2020 NBA draft, however, did not put Dowtin’s name on the board, but that did not deter his journey as a professional basketball player. He signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Orlando Magic on December 19, 2020, though he was waived on the same day. Keeping in spirit, on January 24, 2021, he was taken in as an affiliate player by the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G League. He played 15 games for this team, averaging 6.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in about 20 minutes playtime. Also of note, the Lakeland Magic triumphed that season by earning the G League championship against the Delaware Blue Coats.

Parallel to the following year, in September 2021, Dowtin signed up with the Orlando Magic but was waived at the end of training camp. Not long after, in October, he was claimed off waivers by the Golden State Warriors, who further solidified his deal in a two-way contract with the Santa Cruz Warriors. However, in the following January, his contract was discontinued.

In the same month, Dowtin took a ten-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, which saw him make a single appearance before being assigned to the Wisconsin Herd of the G League. Dowtin was then reacquired by the Lakeland Magic at the end of January, removed, and then re-signed again in early February.

As March rolled in, Dowtin once again found himself under the contract of Orlando Magic, which lasted for ten days. Consequently, in April, he rejoined Lakeland. By summer, Dowtin was seen participating with the Toronto Raptors for the 2022 NBA Summer League and signed a two-way contract with the Raptors in July 2022. The following year, he took up a standard contract with the Raptors, but this was short-lived as he was waived by October.

November 2, 2023, marked a new passage in Dowtin’s career as he then joined the Delaware Blue Coats. His journey here led him to sign a two-way contract in early March 2024 with the Philadelphia 76ers. The following month, he escalated to a standard contract before signing yet another two-way contract in July with the Sixers.

Away from the court, Jeffrey Dowtin Jr. shares a close knit bond with his family, being the son of Lesa and Jeffrey Dowtin Sr., and a doting brother to his sister, Jeleisa.
