Andrés Chaparro's Biography
Andrés Alfonso Chaparro, born on May 4, 1999, hails from Venezuela and has become a notable figure in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a professional baseball first and third baseman for the Washington Nationals.
Chaparro’s journey into the world of professional baseball began in earnest on July 2, 2015, when he signed with the New York Yankees as an international free agent. His professional debut took place the following year in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Yankees, where he played competitively in 50 games and boasted a .238 batting average.
In 2017, Chaparro further demonstrated his burgeoning talent in the rookie-level Pulaski Yankees, presenting a .191/.249/.348 batting record with seven home runs and 20 runs batted in (RBI), irrespective of the hefty 50 games that he partook in during the season.
The subsequent years from 2018 to 2019 saw him spending his seasons with the Low-A Staten Island Yankees. In these seasons, he maintained .191 across 60 games in the former year and drastically improved that figure to .246 across 57 games in the latter year. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted the minor league season, leading to Chaparro’s withdrawal from any gameplay in that year.
Despite this setback in 2020, Chaparro made a vigorous comeback the next year in 2021. He returned to action with the Single-A Tampa Tarpons and High-A Hudson Valley Renegades. Over the course of 101 games for the two teams combined, he had a successful season with an impressive .267/.381/.468 batting performance, a record of 15 home runs, and 73 RBI. His excellent performance earned him a spot in the prestigious Arizona Fall League.
The year 2022 saw Chaparro displaying his athletic prowess with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Yankees, Tampa, and Double-A Somerset Patriots. Throughout 71 games involving these three affiliates, he recorded a .296/.370/.592 average, reaching a career-high with 20 home runs and 55 RBI.
Riding on his streak of successful seasons, Chaparro spent 2023 with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. His involvement in 137 contests for the season saw him secure .247/.331/.444 in batting average, 23 home runs, and 89 RBI – new career-high figures he achieved in that season. However, he elected free agency on November 6, 2023, post that season.
Subsequently, on November 19, 2023, Chaparro signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Sporting for the Triple-A Reno Aces, he brilliantly batted .332/.403/.564, hitting 19 home runs, and making 75 RBI in 95 games.
The turning point in Chaparro’s career came on July 30, 2024, when he was traded by the Diamondbacks to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Dylan Floro. He managed to achieve a .286/.419/.657 batting average, four home runs, and 10 RBI over just 10 games for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. His stunning performance led to his selection to the 40-man roster on August 13, and subsequently, his promotion to the major leagues for the first time, clinching a spot with the Washington Nationals. The Venezuelan-born player’s persistent determination and strong work ethic have enabled him to garner a credible reputation within the Major League Baseball circuit.
