There is two men with a title in the welterweight division currently, and that does not look to stand well with the linear champion Kamaru Usman. When asked recently if he was impressed with BMF champ Jorge Masvidal’s performance, he retorted “I wouldn’t say I’m impressed.” to MMAFighting.com. The champ went on to describe Masvidal’s recent win streak as luck. Usman Citied Masvidal’s victories as rapid finishes.

I can say this is a different guy. But I think right now he’s riding the wave, and he’s got the luck of the draw on his side.

Usman does give “Street Jesus” some credit however as he states that he is doing a “phenomenal job.”

“Ultimately, you can’t knock anything that he’s done. I think he’s done a phenomenal job with the opportunity he’s been presented with and he’s ran away with it. I’m happy for him on that end.”

Despite the criticism, the champ admits that he has hopes to fight the hype train that is Jorge Masvidal. Obviously the bout would mean a large paycheck, and that is worth more than a title to most in the game.

The newly minted champ will still need to complete his first title defense in the meanwhile against his arch nemesis “Chaos” Colby Covington on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, NV.
