BIOGRAPHY

Mateus “Piu-Piu” Mendonca is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is currently signed to the UFC’s lightweight division and has fought eight times in the Octagon.

Born on June 21, 1991, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mateus began training martial arts at an early age as his father was a Jiu-Jitsu black belt. When he was 18 years old, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and started competing professionally in MMA. He quickly made a name for himself with his aggressive Muay Thai style and powerful ground game.

Mendonca began his professional career by amassing an impressive 11–2 record before being signed by the UFC in 2015. Since joining the promotion, he has gone 2–6 but remains highly competitive against some of the top fighters in lightweight division including Beneil Dariush, Islam Makhachev and Scott Holtzman among others.

In addition to fighting inside of the octagon, Mendonca also works as an instructor at various gyms throughout Brazil where he teaches classes on wrestling techniques and submission grappling. He also holds regular seminars across South America teaching students about his proven approach to MMA success which focuses heavily on maintaining good conditioning while developing technical striking abilities.

Outside of competition or instruction roles, Mateus dedicates much of his time towards helping younger athletes achieve their goals through mentorship initiatives based out of his home city Rio de Janeiro . Additionally , Mendonca recently teamed up with other Brazilian athletes such as Paulo Costa , Anderson Silva , Joaquim Silva , Jose Aldo Jr., Junior Dos Santos , Renan Barao & Charles Oliveira to bring attention to those who face everyday struggles within underprivileged communities throughout Brazil . The mission statement behind this collaboration was simply put “to help those without resources get their dreams achieved” This helped promote not only healthy lifestyles but aspirations that these kids may have never thought possible before getting involved with them & ultimately building self confidence within each individual participant

Overall Mateus is one of many great examples that come from humble beginnings yet succeed despite personal obstacles because they are willing to put forth extra effort into bettering themselves both mentally & physically . His drive for excellence will continue well beyond his time inside & outside of competing within the UFC
