Miesha Tate is an American mixed martial artist and a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Born in Tacoma, Washington on August 18th, 1986, she started her career as a wrestler for Franklin Pierce High School where she won four State wrestling championships. She then went on to pursue a college degree in Business Management at Central Washington University where she became the first female All-American wrestler at the school.
After college, Miesha decided to transition into MMA full time with her debut fight coming at King of the Cage: Turning Point against Elaina Maxwell which ended with Tate taking home a unanimous decision victory. After that fight she moved up to Strikeforce and began competing there, defeating Kaitlin Young in her debut fight before taking on future UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. Despite putting up a good fight against Rousey it ended with Tate losing by submission due to an armbar from Ronda in round 1 of their match back in 2012.
However this defeat did not stop Miesha who would go on to win seven out of her eight fights after this loss becoming Strikeforce women’s champion before transitioning over into UFC when Zuffa acquired Strikeforce back in 2011. In 2015 Miesha got another shot at Ronda Rousey for the title during UFC 193 and although it was highly anticipated fight it ended similarly like their previous one when Miesha lost via armbar once again but even though she lost that night it showed how much heart and determination Miesha had going into battle with arguably one of the most dominant athletes female or male MMA has ever seen making sure not just herself but other female fighters knew they belonged inside octagon just like men do too!
Following this huge career setback and despite having multiple injuries following both matches vs Rousey ,Tate kept fighting eventually earning herself another shot at gold when Holly Holm pulled off one of biggest upsets ever by dethroning Ronda back 2016 which then set up challenge between Holm & Tate for newly vacated belt . Even though Holly was favorite going into match ,it was determined veteran who took home crown by submitting Holm via rear-naked choke early round 5 giving “cupcake” nickname forevermore due courage determination displayed inside octagon ! Not only that but also helped pave way more opportunities women MMA fighter gaining respect amongst peers fans alike showing everyone watching what true success looks like even if means taking lumps along way !
