Jerome Rivera is an American professional mixed martial artist and flyweight fighter currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He began his MMA career in 2009, competing primarily in regional promotions throughout his teenage years before making a name for himself as one of the best competitors on the international scene. With a record of 11-3, he has gained recognition for his effective striking and dynamic submission game.
Rivera was born in El Paso, Texas, where he spent much of his childhood playing football and basketball while participating in various martial arts. He first took up wrestling when he was 12 years old and continued to pursue it through high school until 2014 when he made the switch to MMA full-time. After training with coaches such as former UFC fighters Jon Fitch and Cub Swanson, Rivera debuted professionally at XKO 18: Best Of The Best against Fabian Quintanar, who he defeated via first round knockout. From there onwards it did not take long for him to make a name for himself; by 2016 he had racked up ten victories including two submissions over well-known opponents like Erik Perez and Jose Figueroa Jr., earning himself an invitation to compete on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series (DWTNCS).
In 2017 Jerome scored a unanimous decision win over Joby Sanchez during season 3 of DWTNCS which earned him a contract with UFC after impressing president Dana White upon watching their fight live at UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas Nevada. Since then Rivera has fought twice under the banner of UFC’s smallest promotion – flyweight division – both times defeating Matt Schnell via split decision victory respectively at October 2018 & June 2019 events respectively . He is currently ranked 10th among other contenders according to official rankings released by association officials this autumn 2020 season..
