Dwight Grant is an American mixed martial artist who currently competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He made his UFC debut in June 2019, and since then has established himself as one of the most promising fighters in his weight class.
Grant was born on February 19, 1985 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Pemberton Township High School where he took up wrestling and excelled at it. After high school graduation he went to Rutgers University where he became a two-time All-American wrestler before graduating with a degree in criminal justice.
He began training Brazilian jiu-jitsu shortly after college and started competing as an amateur fighter while still working full time jobs to support himself financially. In 2011, Grant won six amateur fights that earned him a professional contract with Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC), which also served as his introduction into MMA competition. During this time, Grant competed five times for CFFC and compiled an impressive 5–0 record that included three submission victories along with two knockouts. These performances caught the attention of UFC president Dana White who signed him to compete for their organization in 2019 at UFC Fight Night 150: Jacare vs Hermansson card held at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida United States against Alex Munoz winning via split decision due to scores 29–28 from all three judges scoring the contest .
After having made such a successful debut Dwight Grant quickly moved up the ranks within UFC Lightweight Division earning himself bigger opportunities fighting top 10 ranked lightweight fighters such as Mike Perry whom he faced off at “Fight Island” event 2 during Summer 2020 losing via split decision due scores 30–27 28–29 29–28 from all 3 judges scoring bout . Despite not getting victory over Mike Perry Dwight remains positive looking forward future fights showing much potential becoming important player within 155lbs division .
