BIOGRAPHY
Damir Ismagulov is a professional mixed martial artist from Kazakhstan. He currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight division, where he has enjoyed considerable success. Born on August 10th, 1989, Damir was an avid athlete from a young age and began training in kickboxing at just 15 years old. During his teenage years, he also trained in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu before making the transition to professional MMA fighting aged 20.
In 2013, Damir joined Astana Fight Club’s Pro Team and went on to make his official debut later that year with a submission win against Astana FC foe Cyril Lyubomirov at Eternal MMA 9: Russia vs The World 2. His undefeated streak continued into 2014 when he secured wins over Armen Ashughazaryan and Yury Vorsin via unanimous decision at M-1 Challenge 48: Battle of Narts and M-1 Challenge 50, respectively.
Impressed by his performances, UFC President Dana White signed Ismagulov to fight in their promotion during late 2016 – marking him out as one of the first fighters from Kazakhstan to compete for them. After winning two early matches inside the octagon by unanimous decision against Thiago Santos Silva and Joaquim Silva – both held within 2017 – he earned himself Fight of the Night honors for his bout with Alex Gorgees at UFC Fight Night 142 2018 In Australia’s Adelaide Entertainment Centre; which ended with Ismagulov dominating the three rounds for another victory by unanimous decision.
Since then he has been able to add two more victories onto his record after dispatching opponents Jordan Griffin & Alex da Silva Coelho via submission & split decision respectively; giving him five successful fights since joining up with UFC’s ranks in September 2016 – four wins & one loss (via split decision against Alexander Yakolev). As of April 2021 Damir holds a 15–2 overall record including seven finishes (four knockouts & three submissions). All signs point towards this flyweight fighter continuing to climb higher up rankings throughout 2021 hopefully culminating in a title shot somewhere down line!
