BIOGRAPHY
Abus Magomedov is a professional mixed martial artist and fighter currently competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He hails from Dagestan, Russia and has been fighting since he was 16 years old.
Magomedov began his career fighting in local circuits across Russia before making his way to the UFC. His first appearance with the organization came at UFC 192: Cormier vs Gustafsson where he won via unanimous decision against Chris Wade. From there, Magomedov went on to win four consecutive bouts against fighters such as Gilbert Burns, Ramazan Emeev, Omari Akhmedov, and Terry Etim. During this period Magomedov was also selected as a coach for Team Europe in Season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter reality show alongside teammate Artem Lobov who was team captain.
In 2016 Magomedov signed with the Russian promotion Fight Nights Global but would return to the UFC after two successful appearances which included a submission victory over veteran Yury Vostrovsky at Fight Nights 64 resulting in him becoming an interim lightweight champion of that organization. In 2018 Abus officially returned to the UFC where he made an impressive debut by defeating Kajan Johnson via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 136–the fight earned both fighters “Fight of The Night” honors and set up what would become one of his most memorable wins when he defeated Rashid Magomedsharipov by technical knockout just 28 seconds into round one of their bout at UFC 221–this fight earned him yet another “Performance Of The Night” bonus from the promotion.
Despite suffering from three losses during this time period including fights against Mairbek Taisumvav (who eventually became a top 5 ranked featherweight) as well as Teemu Packalen and Charles Oliveira, Abus managed to keep his spot in contention within division thanks to victories over Damir Hadžović and Rustam Khabilov respectively earning himself rankings among multiple publications including being voted #15 lightweights by ESPN MMA Rankings 2020. Currently residing outside Leipzig Germany—where he trains under renowned coaches Fernando Maccachero & Juanito Ibarra—Magomdod has expressed interest in taking part in seminars around Europe while building brand awareness so future generations will know about that someone born out of humble beginnings once battled it out inside world’s most famous cages proving nothing is impossible if you never quit pursuing your dreams no matter how hard they seem to be…
