JP Buys is a South African mixed martial artist and competitor in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was born on April 2, 1990 in Johannesburg, South Africa and began his competitive career as an amateur MMA fighter in 2013.

In 2014 he made his professional debut with a win over Johan van Niekerk by submission at EFC 24: Smit vs. Madge. In 2015 he won his next three fights, all by way of TKO or KO in the first round. It was during this time that Buys earned himself a contract with the UFC.

Buys made his UFC debut against promotional newcomer Joe Soto at UFC Fight Night 77: Belfort vs Henderson III on November 7th, 2015 where he won via unanimous decision after dominating throughout all three rounds of action. This victory was followed up with another win against Kailin Curran at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale which came by way of rear-naked choke submission early into the second round of action.
