On July 15th, the UFC will host their next event with Holly Holm set to take on Mayra Bueno Silva in a bantamweight main event. It’s a big opportunity for both fighters as they look to position themselves for a shot at the title and Holm looks to work her way back into contention following her failed move up to featherweight and subsequent loss during her return fight.
“The matchup was first reported by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Wednesday’s episode of The MMA Hour,” said Damon Martin from MMA Fighting. “MMA Fighting previously reported that a welterweight matchup between Rafael dos Anjos and Vicente Luque was expected to headline the summer event it’s unclear at the time of this writing whether that bout has been shifted to co-headliner status.”
Holm is currently ranked third in the UFC’s bantamweight division following an impressive unanimous decision win over Yana Santos at UFC San Antonio. Meanwhile, Bueno Silva is ranked tenth after stringing together three consecutive wins in the division, two of which were finishes.
Holly Holm – A Former Champion Looking For Redemption
Holm is no stranger when it comes to title shots having held the belt before, but she’ll need another impressive performance if she wants another chance at gold.
“It’s going be important for me when I step back into [the octagon]…to make sure I have something new or something different that people haven’t seen yet,”
