Zach Gentry is an American football tight end from Albuquerque, New Mexico, born September 10, 1996. He attended Eldorado High School, where he was a quarterback before enrolling at the University of Michigan. Gentry converted to tight end before his sophomore season, developing from a large-framed passer into a receiving and blocking option. At Michigan, he earned three varsity letters, received the team’s 2017 Most Improved Offensive Player award, and was recognized twice by All-Big Ten voters.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Gentry in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft. His combination of exceptional length and former-quarterback background made him a developmental tight end with experience working in space, while his NFL role also grew to include in-line blocking. Pittsburgh re-signed him to a one-year contract on April 4, 2023, and released him on August 29, 2023.
