Tyler Ott's Biography

Tyler Ott is a renowned professional American footballer, born on February 28, 1992, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to parents Dan and Laurie (currently Applekamp) Ott. His phenomenal football career, coupled with his role as a long snapper, brought him to limelight as a member of the Washington Commanders in the National Football League (NFL). His impressive roster includes having played for the New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens.

Tyler’s journey to success began right from his early education at the Jenks Public School system, which was followed by his enrolment at Jenks High School. Throughout his high school years, Ott excelled in multiple sports, earning three-year letters in football, basketball, and track and field. His outstanding high school sports career also saw him captain the football team for three years and become a senior captain in basketball and track and field. His involvement in track and field saw him carve impressive records in shot put and discus throws of 50 feet 2 inches and 148 feet 9 inches respectively. Tyler was a significant player in the Jenks High School football team, where he played as a tight end and long snapper, recording 47 catches, 771 total receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns. One of his most memorable high school football championship was the 2007 victory against Tulsa Union High School.

Tyler’s athletic prowess continued at Harvard University as a tight end and long snapper for the football team for his four-year stay. The stats he built up over the years contributed significantly to his team’s success. In his early college career, he played as a blocking tight end before becoming the primary long snapper by his second year. His junior year marked his first catch as a tight end at a game against Columbia. His progression saw him becoming one of the two starting tight ends in Harvard’s two tight end offense by his senior year, following which he was invited to play in the Senior Bowl. Ott concluded his senior year with a record of 15 receptions, 188 yards, and four touchdowns. He even tied Harvard’s record for single game touchdown receptions with his three touchdowns against Princeton. His exceptional performance on the field that game led to his recognition as National Tight End of the Week by College Performance Awards.

However, Ott’s achievements were not confined only to the football field. He graduated in 2014 from Harvard with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics and a minor in Environmental Science & Public Policy. During his time at Harvard, he resided in Dunster House under the guidance of house masters Roger B. Porter and Ann Porter.

Ott embarked on his professional career with the New England Patriots, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Although he was subsequently released and re-signed by the Patriots, he eventually joined the St. Louis Rams following a mini-camp tryout in May 2015. After brief stints with the New York Giants and the Cincinnati Bengals, Ott signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 to replace an injured player. His remarkable performance with the Seahawks resulted in a new four-year contract in 2019 and a position as the starting long snapper for the NFC in the 2021 Pro Bowl.

An injury led to Ott being placed on injured reserved in 2022. He later signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 to replace Nick Moore, who was sidelined due to an Achilles tendon tear. Tyler journeyed to the Washington Commanders in 2024 with a three-year contract. Despite the many twists and turns, Ott’s professional journey in the NFL stands as a testament to his perseverance, resilience, and dedication to the sport.
