Trey McBride's Biography

Trey McBride, born on November 22, 1999, is an accomplished tight end for the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). Known for his stellar performances in both his college and professional football career, McBride has consistently proved to be a competent multi-sport athlete from a young age.

Raised in Fort Morgan, Colorado, McBride attended Fort Morgan High School and quickly distinguished himself in sports. He participated in multiple sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. In his junior year, he concluded the football season with 32 catches, 751 yards, and 11 touchdowns. His formidable performance secured him a spot as a Class 3A All-Colorado selection.

His senior year saw him rushed for 226 yards, caught for 450 yards, and score four total touchdowns, combined with defensive contributions of 40 tackles and a sack. His consistent performance saw him repeat as an All-Colorado selection. Also, he holds the school’s career records, in basketball for points scored and in baseball for home runs and RBIs.

As a three-star recruit from 247Sports after his high school career, McBride decided to take up a scholarship offer from Colorado State. He had offers from other competitive teams including Colorado, Cal, Kansas State, Navy, Northern Colorado, and Wyoming, but he chose Colorado State.

At Colorado State, McBride proved his mettle as a freshman, participating in 12 games and starting 5 games. He caught seven passes for 89 yards one touchdown, gaining recognition as an Academic All-Mountain West Conference selection. His sophomore year saw him earn the “All-Mountain West” title after he finished his first full season with 45 impressive catches for 560 yards and four touchdowns.

However, his journey was not devoid of obstacles. During his junior year, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, he briefly considered an exit but decided against it and remained a team captain. Despite the shortened 2020 season, he performed impressively, catching 22 passes for 330 yards, four touchdowns in four games and also received an All-American honorable mention from Pro Football Focus.

The senior season saw McAbride’s name in various award watchlists such as the Biletnikoff Award, Mackey Award, Lombardi Award, and Senior Bowl watch list. Proving his worth, Mcbride recorded 13 catches for 116 yards against South Dakota State in his first senior season game. He received more recognition for his stellar performance against Toledo with nine catches for 109 receiving yards.

McBride continued to set records throughout his 2021 games. He recorded at least 100 receiving yards in six of 12 games. His efforts earned him the 2021 Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top college football tight end. A remarkable tight end, McBride went on to break numerous Colorado State school records, making him one of the most decorated players in his school history.

His draft into the NFL came in 2022, when the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the second round. McBride made his NFL debut in the Week 2 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. His first professional touchdown came against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17. As a rookie, he played in 16 games and started in 13, receiving 29 passes for 265 yards, and marking one receiving touchdown.

In his second season with the Cardinals, McBride made waves by becoming the first tight end since Rob Awalt in 1989, to receive more than 100 yards in a match, a feat he accomplished during Week 10 against the Falcons.

Away from the football field, McBride was notably brought up in a same-sex marriage household, a milestone for the NFL. He has an extended family of two older brothers, a twin, and a younger sister, one of which Toby, also played at Colorado State as a defensive end. Despite challenges and overcoming adversity, Trey McBride remains a sterling testament to dedication, skill, and a relentless spirit.
