Travis Hunter's Biography

Born on May 18, 2003 in West Palm Beach, Florida, Travis Hunter Jr. is an All-American football player who is known for his dual position as a cornerback and wide receiver. Currently, he graces the field as a player for the Colorado Buffaloes, prior to which he made a significant mark while playing for the Jackson State Tigers. It was his stint at Jackson State that garnered him the distinction of being the highest-ranked prospect to commit to a FCS school. Unstoppable in his pursuit of excellence, Hunter transferred to Colorado in 2023, during which football season, he clinched the Paul Hornung Award and earned consensus All-American honors.

In the eighth grade, Hunter moved from Florida to Georgia where his football journey took off. He received his early education at Collins Hill High School, located in Suwanee, Georgia, where he distinguished himself as a cornerback and wide receiver for the school’s football team, fondly referred to as the Eagles. While he was a sophomore, he gained prominence by leading the county with seven interceptions and recording 49 receptions for 919 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Hunter continued to demonstrate excellent abilities in his junior year. He made eight interceptions along with 51 tackles. His prowess did not stop at that – he complemented his defensive performance with an impressive offensive one by catching 137 passes, spanning a total of 1,746 yards and making 24 touchdowns. This performance earned him an esteemed accolade; he was named the MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year. Moreover, he also set Gwinnett County single-season records in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Thanks to Hunter’s stellar performance, the Eagles knocked out a 12-3 record and made it to the Class 7A state title game.

Hunter shone brightest in his senior year. Despite missing five games due to a mid-season ankle injury, he recorded 76 receptions for 1,128 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the defensive front, he made 23 tackles, grabbed four interceptions, and forced a game-changing fumble. Hunter exhibited his true prowess in the state title game, where his remarkable performance led Collins Hill to a perfect 15-0 record, recording the team’s first state championship in the history of the school. Hunter concluded his high school career by setting the Georgia state record for career receiving touchdowns previously held by Braxton Hicks, with 48 touchdowns to his name.

Travis Hunter also made waves in the 2022 Polynesian Bowl, where his exceptional performance earned him the Offensive MVP honor, with five receptions for 54 yards and an interception.

Such promising performances caught the eye of major recruiters like 247Sports.com and Rivals.com. Both named him as the number one overall recruit, with ESPN ranking him as number two. Hunter was on his way to Florida State, having received a scholarship in November 2019. However, in December 2021, Hunter decided to go with the Jackson State Tigers, under the coaching of Deion Sanders, a Florida State alum.

At Jackson State, Hunter made a significant impact on every game he took part in. His first collegiate touchdown and his first interception took place in week 10 against Alabama A&M. His stint here concluded with him making 19 total tackles, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions in defense, and 18 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns in offense.

Continuing his journey, Hunter transferred to Colorado in 2023 under the same coach, Deion Sanders. His debut for the BUFFs was commendable with 147 total snaps across offenses and defenses and a total of 57 receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns achieved during the season.

Off the field, Hunter’s father, Travis Sr., had played in the Florida Football Alliance and the Southern States Football League, earning the latter’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Following his father’s footsteps, Hunter, Jr. managed to secure the Paul Hornung Award. Hunter also closed NIL deals with several companies and he graced the cover of EA Sports College Football 25.

Hunter’s personal life is filled with love, as he is engaged to his high school sweetheart, Leanna Lenee. Together, they entertain about a 100,000 people through their YouTube channel.
