Tarvarius Moore's Biography

Tarvarius Moore, an American football safety for the NFL’s Chicago Bears who was born on August 16, 1996, has a vibrant and somewhat challenging story to his name. His football journey, akin to most professional athletes, is a tale involving twists, turns, resilience, and a noteworthy level of skill and determination.

Moore’s college football career began at Pearl River Community College, where he spent two years honing his skills and developing in the game. Subsequent to his time there, the aspiring sportsman made a transfer to the renowned University of Southern Mississippi, widely abbreviated as Southern Miss. The institution had been selected among other prestigious offers from institutions that included Minnesota, Middle Tennessee, Nebraska, Louisville, and Arkansas State.

Moore’s first year at Southern Miss didn’t quite match up with his expectations. Though he did not make any starts that year, mainly due to being fourth on the depth chart behind three going out seniors, Moore exemplified grit and resilience. He not only managed to play all 13 games of the season, but impressively tied the team’s lead tally for interceptions with two to his name.

In his senior season, Moore managed to carve a better narrative for himself. He ascended the ranks to a starter’s position and subsequently led the team in both tackles and interceptions, thus solidifying his place as a key player within the squad.

However, Moore faced a setback when he was excluded from an invitation to the coveted NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Regardless, he showcased his talents at Southern Mississippi’s Pro Day on March 29, 2018, performing all combine and positional drills. He eventually emerged as a favorite among NFL draft experts and scouts; projections suggested he’d be a third-round pick. Notably, DraftScout.com ranked him as the fourth-best free safety prospect available, while Scouts Inc. listed him as the tenth-best cornerback in the draft.

Moore’s predictions were right on target as he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (95th overall) of the NFL draft in 2018. Interestingly, the pick used to draft Moore had been acquired from a trade with the New England Patriots involving Trent Brown.

Upon joining the 49ers, Moore sealed a four-year contract valued at $3.35M, which featured a signing bonus of $784,371. The new-bestowed 49er had his career highlight during Super Bowl LIV played against the Kansas City Chiefs, wherein he intercepted a pass from Patrick Mahomes which accidentally bounced off the arm of wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

In 2020, Moore put in promising performances, having been involved in all 16 games of the season and starting in eight of them. His career, however, suffered a nosedive the following year when he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon during a practice session in June 2021.

On March 17, 2023, Green Bay Packers contracted Moore only for him to land on the injured reserve shortly on August 29, 2023, leading to his subsequent release on September 6. He quickly rebounded and signed for the Chicago Bears on March 8, 2024. Yet again, Moore faced another professional bump when he was released on August 27, only to be re-signed to the practice squad afterwards.
