Tariq Castro-Fields's Biography

Tariq Quinton Castro-Fields is an American professional football cornerback currently playing for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL). Born on January 14, 1999, Castro-Fields has carved quite a journey for himself in the world of professional football.

Castro-Fields’ football career took off during his college days at the Pennsylvania State University, where he gave his heart and soul to the game as a proud player for the Penn State Nittany Lions. In a span of five seasons, Castro-Fields made a name for himself by contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Coming from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Castro-Fields was a student at the Riverdale Baptist School. His talent on the football field was quickly evident, leading him to be rated as a four-star recruit. After weighing out many offers, he committed to Penn State, turning down notable offers from Maryland and Alabama.

During his freshman year at Penn State, Castro-Fields made an immediate impact. Playing in 12 games, he completed the season with a commendable record of 10 total tackles, three passes broken up, and an interception. He rose through his junior year, being an indispensable player for the Penn State Nittany Lions. This year saw him amass an impressive 52 tackles, lead the team with two interceptions and eight passes being broken up.

In the football season of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic inarguably affected sports. The season was shortened, Castro-Field’s contribution notwithstanding. He played three games, missing the rest due to injury. Seeing an opportunity to extend his college football career, he chose to utilize the extra year of eligibility that was granted to college athletes due to the effects of the pandemic.

The end of his college career signaled the beginning of a professional one. The 2022 NFL Draft found him selected in the sixth round by the San Francisco 49ers. However, this stint was short-lived and he was waived by the team on August 30, 2022. Wyoming no time, the next day he was claimed off waivers by the Washington Commanders.

Injuries are an unfortunate part and parcel of an athlete’s life, and it hit Castro-Fields during his period with the Commanders. He was placed on injured reserve on October 21. By August 29, 2023, he was waived by the team and re-signed to their practice squad. Proving his relevance and capability, Castro-Fields was promoted back to the active roster by November 3. Yet, by August end of 2024, he was waived as part of the team’s final roster cuts of the season.

Refusing to be deterred, he rebuilt his career when, on August 28, 2024, Castro-Fields was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers. However, October of the same year saw him waived once more.

Despite the setbacks, Castro-Fields persevered and found his way to the Philadelphia Eagles. On October 21, 2024, he was signed to their practice squad, further cementing his place in the world of professional football. Today, Tariq Quinton Castro-Fields continues his pursuit of becoming a seasoned NFL player as he contributes his skills, experience, and team spirit to the Philadelphia Eagles.
