Ricky Pearsall's Biography

Richard Pearsall Jr., widely lauded as a prodigious football talent, was born on September 9, 2000 in Phoenix, Arizona. For Pearsall, the seeds of American Football were sown quite early. Growing up in Chandler, a suburb located in close proximity to his native Phoenix, he would eventually join Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona, marking the start of his foray into organized Football.

While at Corona, as a junior, Pearsall astounded spectators and opposing teams alike by setting a record for the Arizona High School 6A for the most receiving yard in a single game – a mammoth 342 over 14 receptions against Gilbert High School. Riding high on consistent performances, he concluded the season with 74 receptions for a total of 1,153 yards alongside 15 touchdowns. In acknowledgment of his exploits, he was categorized as a three-star recruit and was sought after by a slew of universities. However, he chose to commit to the Arizona State Sun Devils, overlooking offers from universities such as Air Force, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, and UC Davis.

Richard Pearsall Jr. initiated his collegiate career with Arizona State and amassed seven receptions for 128 yards as a freshman. Despite the truncated 2020 Pac-12 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he participated in all games and baged six passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. With 48 receptions for 580 yards and a team-high four receiving touchdowns in his junior year, Pearsall was seen as a major asset at Arizona State. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, he sought new pastures and entered the NCAA transfer portal.

After weighing his options, Pearsall switched to Florida, having also given Oregon serious consideration. Stampeded early on by a foot injury during training camp, Pearsall made a timely recovery just as the 2022 season was about to begin. He showcased his recuperation by snagging five receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns against Florida State. At the close of that season, the wide receiver notched 33 receptions for 661 yards and five touchdowns. In his 2023 season, Pearsall scaled newer heights with 65 receptions for 965 yards and four touchdowns.

Transitioning to the professional football arena, Pearsall was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft by San Francisco 49ers. Closing the deal, he signed a four-year rookie contract on June 21, 2024. Just as his NFL dream was set to take off, Pearsall was shot in the chest during a failed robbery attempt in San Francisco on August 31, 2024. As a result, he was placed on the reserve/NFI list. However, he displayed resilience and was activated to rejoin his team on October 19, 2024.

Pearsall made his NFL debut against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite a loss, he made a notable contribution of three receptions for 21 yards. On November 10, in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he managed to channel his burgeoning potential by scoring his first-career touchdown along with four receptions for 73 yards.

Pearsall’s resilience extended off the field as well, carried by his dogged recovery from the shooting incident on August 31, 2024. He was shot in an attempted robbery over his Rolex watch in Union Square, San Francisco. Following a struggle, Pearsall and the suspect were both shot and Pearsall was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital for immediate treatment. Just days later, he appeared on the sidelines of the 49ers’ season opener at Levi’s Stadium and emerged to applause as he offered his match jersey to the police officer and trauma surgeon who had attended to him following the shooting.

Seen as a beacon of resilience and an embodiment of raw talent, Pearsall’s legacy in the field of American Football is informed not just by his own achievements but also by his family’s athletic prowess, with his father, Ricky Pearsall Sr., being a captain in the Phoenix Fire Department and a former college footballer at Northern Arizona himself. His journey has carried forth this legacy while carving out a unique place for himself in the annals of American Football, with a career that stands testament to his talent, resilience and undying spirit.
