Rashad Fenton's Biography

Rashad Fenton, born on the 17th of February in 1997, is a competitive American football cornerback who is currently a free agent. Fenton’s journey into the world of football began early on, whereas a high school student at Miami Carol City in Miami Gardens, Florida, he distinguished himself as a highly promising prospect under the direct guidance of coach Aubrey Hill, himself a student of Steve Spurrier, the renowned football player, and coach.

Encouraged by influential recruiting platforms such as ESPN, 247Sports, and Rivals, Fenton was regarded as a top-tier three-star recruit, a recognition that brought him numerous offers from Power 5 schools. Enticed by the proud legacy of the South Carolina Gamecocks football, Fenton favored South Carolina over other potential destinations like Florida and Louisville earning himself an opportunity to advance his skillset on the college football turf.

Stepping into the South Carolina Gamecocks football in 2015, Fenton wasted no time in establishing himself as a dependable cover corner. Across four years, he participated in 48 games and made 30 starts, clocking in 122 tackles, five interceptions, 24 passes defended, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery throughout his college football career. Fenton’s prowess in the field also extended to his record-breaking 24.8-yard career kick return average, which is the second-highest in school history and includes a memorable kickoff return that led to a touchdown.

Beginning his journey in South Carolina as a true freshman in 2015, Fenton was initially given limited playing time but was utilized for returning kicks. With the sudden resignation of Coach Steve Spurrier in the middle of the season, the course of the season took an unexpected turn. Fenton, however, continued on the path of improvement and, in the subsequent year, appeared in 12 games with seven starts under first-year coach Will Muschamp. By the end of the season, he had registered 38 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a half a sack, one forced fumble, five pass breakups, and one interception.

In his senior year, just before the 2018 season, Fenton’s outstanding performance was acknowledged when he was named to Athlon Sports’ 2018 pre-season fourth-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) unit. Throughout the season, Fenton was widely recognized as the Gamecocks’ top cover corner and split his playing time at nickel and safety, while starting in 12 out of 13 games. His growing repertoire of achievements was topped off with his consecutive interceptions in three SEC games, a feat that led to him being awarded the “Unselfish Teammate Award” in 2018 by his peers.

From the college fields, Fenton leaped into the professional football scene when he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round as the 201st overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. His contributions to the team were crucial, as seen in significant plays during the games against Los Angeles Chargers, Oakland Raiders, and Houston Texans. Fenton’s efforts culminated in the Chiefs’ victorious Super Bowl LIV where they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.

Fenton continued his journey with the Chiefs into the subsequent season and excelled during the Week 4 match against the New England Patriots before suffering ankle injuries in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite missing the Divisional Round win over the Cleveland Browns due to injury, Fenton returned for the 2020 AFC Championship game, where he made a critical interception to secure a 16-point fourth-quarter lead against Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen.

However, a surprising turn of events saw Fenton being traded to the Atlanta Falcons on November 1, 2022, for a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft. But his journey took another twist when on March 30, 2023, Fenton signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately, injuries struck again on August 14, 2023, when he was placed on an injured reserve, temporarily halting his diverse and dynamic career. Despite the setbacks, Fenton’s record speaks for itself, marking him as a seasoned player who brings tenacity and skill to the field.
