Nyheim Hines's Biography

Born on November 12, 1996, Nyheim Hines is an American professional football player who serves as running back for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He embarked on his NFL journey when he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft. Born and raised in Garner, North Carolina, Hines showcased his passion and prowess in football from his early school days.

For the majority of Hines’ life, football has been the central theme. During his high school tenure at Garner Magnet High School, Hines displayed exceptional talent, leaving a mark that would be remembered for years to come. He accumulated an impressive total of 6,242 rushing yards, 7,299 total yards, and 126 touchdowns. His record of scoring seven touchdowns in a single game has been achieved twice- one of the 15 school records he holds. With these consistent performances, he caught the attention of North Carolina State University and was invited to join their football team.

Hines joined NC State in 2015 and played till 2017 under the leadership of head coach Dave Doeren. In 2017, his junior year, Hines had noteworthy accomplishments, rushing for 1,112 yards on 197 carries with 12 touchdowns. His football career did not end at NC State, after the season, he chose to forgo his senior year and instead, register for the 2018 NFL draft. He wrapped up his college career with 1,400 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Notably, Hines was not just a football player at NC State. He was also a member of the university’s track team, displaying his agility and speed on the sports field. In the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) outdoor track and field championships, he placed third in the 100 meters, registering his personal-best time of 10.34 seconds. His personal-best in the 60 meters placed him third at the ACC indoor championships.

Being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round, 104th overall of the 2018 NFL draft was a turning point in his career. Hines made his debut against the Cincinnati Bengals in a season that saw him finish with 314 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 63 receptions, 425 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns.

His career took a new turn in the Colts’ 2020 season with numerous accomplishments including rushing for 28 yards and a touchdown, and catching eight passes for 45 yards and a receiving touchdown. His performance continued to rise, and on September 10, 2021, Hines signed a three-year contract with the Colts worth $18.6 million.

However, in November 2022, Hines was traded to the Buffalo Bills exchanging for running back Zack Moss and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. During his time at the Bills, Hines continued to deliver excellent performances, showcasing consistency and talent.

Later, Hines endured a setback in his career which came in the form of an unfortunate leg injury sustained in a personal watercraft accident during the 2023 offseason. The severity of the injury caused him to sit out the entire 2023 season.

Despite grappling with an injury, Hines remained undeterred. He was released by the Bills on March 6, 2024, but bounced back stronger. He signed with the Cleveland Browns shortly after on March 13, 2024. This new chapter of Hines’ career began with him being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list to start the season.

Beyond the playing field, Hines is known for his dedication and persistence. This is exemplified by his off-season work at Bojangles, preparing himself for a life after football. He is not the only athlete in his family- his twin sister, Nyah, shares his athletic talent, competing for the NC State track and field team.
