Montravius Adams is a professional American football player recognised for his impactful career as a defensive tackle. Born on July 24, 1995, Adams has been a significant part of the National Football League (NFL), currently playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, his journey to becoming a prominent name in football started long before his professional career.

Adams grew up in Vienna, Georgia, where he attended Dooly County High School. During that time, his football skills were already noticeable, especially in his senior year when he made an impressive record of 127 tackles, 34 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. His remarkable performance led the Bobcats to an 11–3 record and participation in the Class A state title game. His consistent excellence led to his selection to the All-State team for the second consecutive year and a spot in the prestigious 2013 Under Armour All-America Game.

Making waves early in his career, Adams attracted substantial attention from scouts. His skill set and versatility earned him a five-star recruit rating by Rivals.com, and he was positioned as the 3rd best defensive lineman in his class. Initially, Clemson University, being the first school to extend an offer, seemed like his likely choice. However, in a surprising twist on National Signing Day in February 2013, Adams committed to playing college football for Auburn University.

His start at Auburn was quite promising. As a true freshman in 2013, he played in 13 games, impressively recording 20 tackles in his first ever season. His first career sack came in the season opener against Washington State, marking a strong start to his tenure at Auburn. By the end of the season, Adams had become a sensation and was recognised as a Freshman All-American by 247 Sports.

Over his sophomore and junior seasons, Adams became a consistent, reliable presence on the field. In 2014, he made 43 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and an interception while featuring in 13 games and making 10 starts. In 2015, he graduated to a permanent starter, ending the season with 44 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

Adams’ senior year was a statement of his resilience and determination. As a team captain, he recorded 44 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception, 2 blocked kicks, and a touchdown. SEC County praised Adams as “the most consistent force for [an] Auburn defense that went from punchline to power in 2016.”

His dedication and skill earned him first-team All-SEC accolades and second-team All-American nods from AP, CBS Sports, and AFCA. This marked the culmination of his college football journey, setting the stage for his professional career at the 2016 Senior Bowl, where he made six tackles, one tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery.

Adams got his big break when he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2017 NFL draft. After signing his rookie contract, his career launch was delayed due to foot surgery, but his patience paid off when, in November 2018, he recorded his first professional sack on Miami Dolphins quarterback Brock Osweiler.

His contributions to the Green Bay Packers were significant until being placed on injured reserve in November 2020. Adams’ professional journey then led him to the New England Patriots in March 2021, although he was released in August of the same year.

Adams did not have to wait long before being signed by the New Orleans Saints in September 2021, but his tenure there was short, as he was released in November and re-hired for the practice squad. His dedication, perseverance and remarkable skills launched another opportunity when the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him in the same month, marking a new chapter in his professional journey.

In March 2022, Adams was given a two-year contract extension by the Steelers. He further cemented his place on the team two years later, with a re-signing in 2024.

Off the field, Adams is a proud father to two sons with his high school sweetheart, Lateisha Gray. Their first child, Montravius Adams Jr., was born on April 28, 2017. As the son of Debbie Young and Bruce Granville, Adams has demonstrated an admirable blend of talent, tenacity, and teamwork, making him a resounding player in American football.
