Mason Walker Crosby, a professional American football player was born on September 3, 1984, and has had an inspiring career in the National Football League (NFL). A renowned placekicker, Crosby’s early football life started in his high school years at Georgetown High School. As an outstanding young athlete, he took part in several high school football games showcasing his latent talent. Beyond his high school years, Crosby attended and played for the University of Colorado Boulder where he featured prominently in the Colorado Buffaloes football team from 2003 to 2006. With an extraordinary kicking strength, Crosby made a school record with a 60-yard field goal against Iowa State in 2004. His iconic 58-yard field goal against Miami the following year even went down as the longest ever kicked in NCAA Division I-A football at sea level, without using a tee.

During his college career, he hit 66 out of 88 field goals in total. His exceptional performance also included 12 out of 13 successful field goals in the fourth quarter of games. In fact, during the last 8 minutes of games, he maintained a perfect track record with a 10 out of 10 success rate. Crosby also developed competency in kickoff, making 138 touchbacks out of his 203 career kickoffs. His ability to force touchbacks after touchdowns made him a favorite with the fans.

Crosby’s performance did not go unnoticed and he was named to the All-Decade team by The Sporting News for the first nine years of the decade. Following an impressive college career, Crosby was picked by the Green Bay Packers, as part of the 2007 NFL draft. His career with the Green Bay Packers spanned 16 seasons during which he set numerous records and was part of the Super Bowl XLV winning team. Crosby eventually became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.

During his rookie season with the Packers, Crosby converted all three field goals he attempted in his first regular-season game. He followed it up by becoming the first rookie kicker in the NFL to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on opening weekend. Crosby continued to impress during his time with the Packers, constantly bolstering his record and reputation. His memorable achievements with the team included converting all 46 extra point attempts and 27 of 34 field goal attempts in the 2008 season. In his prolific 2010 season, he converted all 46 extra point attempts and 22 of 28 field goal attempts.

Riding on this momentum, Crosby and the Packers stormed into the Super Bowl XLV and emerged victorious. In the 2011 season, where the Packers re-signed Crosby on a lucrative 5-year contract. Once again, Crosby raised his bar by converting 68-of-69 extra point attempts and 24-of-28 field goal attempts, ultimately leading the league in extra points attempted and converted.

The 2012 season, however, saw Crosby’s field-goal percentage drop to 63.6%, the lowest for any active kicker that year. Despite this dip, Crosby continued to play with determination, converting all 42 extra point attempts and adding 33 field goals in the 2013 season. In 2016, Crosby signed a four-year contract extension with the Packers, and throughout this period he continued to impress and break records.

As time wore on, Crosby left the Packers after the 2022 season. He had a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad in 2023 before signing with the New York Giants later in the same season.
