Marco Wilson's Biography

Marco Wilson was born on March 3, 1999. The professional American football cornerback currently plays for the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL). Wilson was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he attended the American Heritage School. He hails from a mixed ethnic background, with his paternal roots tracing back to Trinidad and his maternal lineage stemming from Puerto Rico.

Wilson committed to play college football at the University of Florida. This decision came despite having lucrative offers from renowned institutions such as the University of Miami, Georgia, Ohio State, and the University of Southern California. His college career commenced on an impressive note as he recorded 34 tackles and ten passes blocked as a true freshman. Marco Wilson’s promising start saw him receive the preseason third-team All-SEC honor before the start of his sophomore year.

Unfortunately, his sophomore year was cut short by an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury after just two games, redshirting him for the remainder of the season. Upon his recovery, Wilson came back stronger in his redshirt sophomore year, recording 36 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 3 interceptions, and 2 passes blocked.

As a college senior, Wilson had a controversial moment during a game against LSU Tigers on December 12, 2020. He celebrated by throwing a shoe, which resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that inadvertently resulted in LSU’s first down. This unforeseen situation contributed to LSU’s narrow victory, defeating the Gators 37–34 after a successful field goal kick.

After his college stint, Wilson entered the 2021 NFL draft, getting selected in the fourth round as the 136th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals. He signed his four-year rookie contract with the team on May 20, 2021. He made his rookie debut as a starting cornerback alongside Byron Murphy and wrapped up his inaugural
season with 48 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two pass defenses through 14 games and 13 starts.

In Week 7 of the 2022 season, Marco Wilson put on an incredible performance. He recorded a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown, three tackles, and two pass breakups, helping his team secure a 42-34 victory against the New Orleans Saints. This formidable performance earned him the title of NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Wilson’s tenure with the Arizona Cardinals ended when he was released on December 26, 2023. Fortunately, he was soon claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots just a day after his release. Wilson’s football career runs in the family, as his brother, Quincy Wilson, also a former football player at Florida, currently plays for the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL.
