Joel Bitonio Bio
Joel Bitonio is a retired NFL offensive guard born October 11, 1991, in California. Listed at 6 feet 4 inches and 320 pounds during his Browns career, he attended Long Beach Wilson High School before playing college football at Nevada. Bitonio developed as an offensive tackle for the Wolf Pack, earned first-team All-Mountain West recognition as a senior and graduated with a degree in economics. Nevada inducted him into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
The Cleveland Browns selected Bitonio in the second round with the 35th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. Although he primarily played tackle at Nevada, Cleveland moved him inside, where his athleticism, toughness and ability to block in space helped him become a fixture at left guard. He earned PFWA All-Rookie recognition and later received seven Pro Bowl selections, five consecutive All-Pro honors from 2018 through 2022 and first-team All-Pro recognition in 2021 and 2022.
Bitonio spent his entire professional career with Cleveland. His three-year extension signed during the 2021 season covered the remainder of his playing career through 2025. On June 9, 2026, he announced his retirement, explaining that he wanted his NFL career to begin and end with the Browns. His Cleveland tenure was also distinguished by leadership and community recognition, including service as a team captain and selection as the Browns' 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.
