Javon Wims's Biography

Javon Lamar Wims, born on September 11, 1994, discovered his love for football in high school, where he played for Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Wims’ impressive high school track record laid the groundwork for a promising football career, as he dominated his senior season on the pitch. On August 27, 2015, he set the tone for his upcoming performance, recording 107 yards and two touchdowns on mere six catches against Holmes in a season opener.

Wims saw no decrease in his momentum in the subsequent games, as he maintained a consistent record. In his next match against Northeast, he made six receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was a 78-yarder and the other a 65-yarder. Despite losing against the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he managed to score twice and rack up 116 yards on eight catches.

The talented player ended his brilliant 2015 season having led his team in all three categories; 47 receptions, 779 yards, and nine touchdowns. His exceptional footwork and agility caught the eyes of scouts from Georgia University, leading to him signing with the college on National Signing Day, February 3, 2016.

Wims’ arrival at Georgia was marked with anticipation, and he didn’t disappoint. In his debut for the Bulldogs on September 24, 2016, he caught one pass for 10 yards. His performance escalated throughout the season, and he finished his first year with 17 receptions for 190 yards and a touchdown. His impressive performance landed him a place in the 2018 Rose Bowl, where Georgia defeated Oklahoma Sooners 54-48, with Wims recording six receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.

The following year, Wims joined the ranks of the NFL since he was picked by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. He made his debut in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and got his first four professional receptions against the Minnesota Vikings. He registered his first touchdown pass against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7, further cementing his place in the team.

Unfortunately, a controversy surrounding a physical scuffle with the New Orleans Saints’ cornerback, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, saw him suspended for two games in 2020. He resumed his playing career with the team in November the same year. However, he was waived by the Bears eventually on August 26, 2021.

Later, on September 29, 2021, Wims signed with the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite his temporary departure in January 2022, he was brought back under a reserve/future contract a week later. He was eventually released in March 2022.

In April 2022, Wims found another opportunity to showcase his talent. He joined the Cleveland Browns before becoming a free agent again after his contract was terminated. He then signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in September 2022 before being released in June 2023. Subsequently, on July 26, 2023, Wims signed with the Carolina Panthers but was cut from the final roster.
