Jamir Jones's Biography

Born on June 14, 1998, Jamir Jones is an American professional football player who made a name for himself as a linebacker in the sport. Today, he is part of the Houston Roughnecks, a team competing in the United Football League (UFL). However, Jones’s journey toward his current position has been a series of ups and downs, with his career taking him through several notable teams and creating a unique legacy.

Jones initially began his football career at the collegiate level, playing for the world-renowned Notre Dame University’s football team. Over his four-year stint with the University, Jones participated in 55 matches and showcased a dramatic improvement in his skills. In his senior year alone in 2019, he played in 11 games, with 50 tackles, seven and a half for a loss, and four and a half sacks to his credit. He also forced two fumbles and even recovered one.

Upon his graduation, Jones’s professional journey started in April 2020 when he got signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans. However, this early promise was short-lived, as Jones was waived off by the Texans in July that year.

The following year in April 2021, Jones was able to garner the attention of head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert, leading him to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Throughout the Steelers’ training camp, Jones’s consistent hard work and undying spirit were noted. His excellent play during the one-on-one drills and scrimmages was particularly lauded. During the preseason, he led the NFL with six quarterback hits and thirteen total QB pressures, while he led the Steelers with six special teams’ tackles. His high-performance led to him securing a place in the 53-man roster, although he was waived later in September that year.

In a twist of fate, Jones was then claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams in September 2021, only to be waived on Christmas Day. Two days later, he was claimed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he stayed until the end of August 2022.

Subsequently, he returned to Pittsburgh Steelers on September 1, 2022. This tenure was quite eventful for Jones. He played in all 17 games and recorded a commendable one pass deflection and ten total tackles. However, his stint was cut short in April 2023 after being arrested on a domestic violence case in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. While these charges were withdrawn by August 2023, the incident led to Jones being released by the Steelers.

After a few months of uncertainty, Jones was signed by the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL in December 2023. However, this tenure proved somewhat brief, and he was released by April 2024. Finally, in July 2024, Jones found his spot with the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL.
