George Fant is an American football offensive tackle born on January 19, 1992, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Playing different positions during his career, Fant has demonstrated an impressive versatility on the field, being known for his agility and strength. His journey to the National Football League is unique, representing an impressive progression from a basketball player to being an NFL player.

Growing up in Bowling Green, Fant had his earliest introduction to sports at a young age. He attended Warren Central High School, where he participated in both basketball and football. After graduating high school, he decided to focus on basketball and accepted a scholarship at Western Kentucky University (WKU).

While at WKU, Fant quickly established himself as a force on the basketball court. He ended his college basketball career scoring over 1,000 points and pulling down more than 750 rebounds. Despite this, after four seasons with the WKU basketball team, Fant switched sports in his senior year and joined the WKU football team as a tight end, despite not playing organized football in three years. Fant’s athleticism and size made him a valuable member of the team, even as he was still learning the nuances of the game.

Following college, Fant went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. However, he received an opportunity to try out for the Seattle Seahawks during their rookie minicamp. He impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism and was signed to the team as an undrafted free agent.

Fant faced the daunting task of learning the NFL game while also transitioning to a new position – offensive tackle. His physical attributes, work ethic, and commitment allowed him to not only make the team’s roster but also earn a starting position. His first career start at left tackle came in Week 8 of the 2016 season. Despite being a raw talent, Fant continued to improve with each game, showing promise in his unexpected rookie campaign.

Fant’s second season in the NFL was derailed by injury. During a preseason game in 2017, Fant suffered a torn ACL, which ended his season before it even started. Undeterred, Fant spent the season recovering and rehabbing from the injury, determined to be an important part of the Seahawks’ offensive line once again.

Returning in 2018, Fant saw action in all 16 games and made seven starts, securing his place on the Seahawks’ roster with his hard work and determination. In the 2019 season, Fant continued his role as a swing tackle for the Seahawks, starting in seven games and appearing in all 16. His versatility allowed him to switch between positions as the team required, contributing to both the running game and the passing game in a significant manner.

In March 2020, Fant decided to test free agency. He ended up signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the New York Jets. Fant transitioned to right tackle with the Jets, a position he hadn’t previously played in the NFL.

Off the field, Fant is known for his humility and philanthropic nature. He spends his off-seasons at his hometown, where he advocates for children and young adults to pursue their dreams.
