Demetric Felton Jr.'s Biography

Born on July 16, 1998, Demetric Felton, Jr. is an American professional running back who has honed his skills in football from a very young age. His journey from being a college athletic star to a professional plays a crucial role in depicting the football world’s many facets in the US.

Felton was a standout athlete during his high school years at Great Oak High School in Temecula, California. As a senior, he rushed for an impressive 1,347 yards from 166 carries and scored 14 touchdowns. His stellar performance paved the way for his future in college football, with him pledging his commitment to UCLA, a university known for nurturing football talent.

Felton’s freshman year with the UCLA Bruins in 2016, however, did not involve much on-field action as he was redshirted. In 2017, he made his debut in the Bruin jersey, participating in 12 games and delivering 75 yards on 10 carries, along with a touchdown. In 2018, Felton demonstrated his versatility by shifting to play wide receiver. He showed great promise, starting eight of 12 games and making 20 receptions for a total of 207 yards and a touchdown that year.

2019 saw Felton unleash his combined prowess as a runner and receiver. He rushed 86 times for 331 yards and kicked a touchdown, while also pulling in 55 receptions for 594 yards and four touchdowns. This performance was promising and then came the opportunity in 2020 when Joshua Kelley left for the NFL. Felton was thrust into the starting running back role at UCLA. In one memorable performance that year, he achieved career highs of 32 carries and 206 yards during a 27–10 victory over Arizona.

However, an injury sidelined Felton for the season finale against Stanford. His performance throughout the season, notwithstanding the injury, was extraordinary. He ended the season as the fourth-leading rusher in the Pac-12 with an average of 111.3 yards per game and five touchdowns. In recognition of his contributions, he was named to the All-Pac-12 second team in 2020.

The 2021 NFL draft was a milestone in Felton’s career. On May 1, he was selected 211th overall by the Cleveland Browns. He signed his four-year rookie contract shortly afterward, on May 13. Felton, utilizing his wide range of skills as a running back, receiver, and a kick returner, made significant strides during the training camp. He scored his first professional touchdown against the Houston Texans on September 19, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Despite his contributions to the team, the Cleveland Browns released Felton on August 29, 2023. He quickly found a new home when the Cincinnati Bengals signed him to their practice squad on August 31, 2023. However, his contract with the Bengals lapsed at the end of their season on January 7, 2024.

In search of fresh opportunity, Felton was signed by the Chicago Bears on July 28, 2024, but was waived just a few weeks later on August 11. The very next day, he was claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts. Despite this opportunity, Felton’s tenure there was short-lived, culminating with his release on August 27, 2024.

From his time in high school to his forays into professional football, Demetric Felton’s journey through various roles and teams showcases a tale of resilience, versatility, and determination. As he embarks on the next stage of his career, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a driving ambition to leave his mark on the game.
