Deebo Samuel

Tyshun Raequan “Deebo” Samuel, born on January 15, 1996, is an American Football wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). The nickname “Deebo” was inspired by the character from the movie “Friday,” a testament to Samuel’s imposing playstyle and strength. He is known for his athleticism, versatility, and his distinctive ability to make significant plays after the catch.

Born in Inman, South Carolina, Samuel was raised in a competitive environment with two brothers, one older and one younger, who shared his enthusiasm for sports. He attended Chapman High School in Inman, where he excelled both academically and athletically. His stellar performance on the football field won him South Carolina’s “Mr. Football” in his senior year.

In 2014, Samuel started his college football career at the University of South Carolina. Despite facing several injuries that sidelined him for significant parts of the 2015 and 2017 seasons, he managed to have a successful college career. His breakout season was 2016, in which he had 59 receptions for 783 yards and a touchdown. He finished his college career with 148 receptions for 2,076 yards and 16 touchdowns in 30 games.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Samuel in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he showcased his explosiveness and versatility, scoring three rushing touchdowns to go along with his three receiving ones. He was instrumental in the 49ers’ run to Super Bowl LIV, particularly shining in the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, where he had 139 receiving yards.

The 2020 season was marred by injuries for Samuel, limiting him to just seven games. However, he managed to record an impressive 391 receiving yards on 33 receptions, averaging nearly 12 yards per catch. He also rushed for 26 yards on eight attempts, further exhibiting his versatility.
