Dayo Odeyingbo

Temidayo Jordan “Dayo” Odeyingbo, known more simply as Dayo, is an imperative figure in American professional football. Born on September 24, 1999, he is renowned for his role as a defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts, a team in the National Football League. His journey in football, however, is a testament to his hard work and grit from a young age until the present day.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, before relocating to Irving, Texas, Dayo hailed from an immigrant family with Nigerian roots. His passion for football started blooming when he attended Ranchview High School in Texas. Here, he began morphing into an exceptional player, amassing 108 tackles and 12 sacks, a feat that garnered attention and began molding his powerful reputation. Little did he know that this was only the beginning of a long and promising journey in the world of football.

With unwavering dedication and game-changing skills, Dayo was courted by numerous colleges eager to ignite his potential further. Amid offers from prestigious institutes like Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Colorado, Baylor, and Purdue, he made the decisive step of committing to Vanderbilt—an opportunity he exploited to its full potential.

His tenure at Vanderbilt witnessed his steady rise as a football powerhouse. As part of the Vanderbilt Commodores for four seasons, Dayo’s seismic impact was felt throughout his collegiate career. His senior year catapulted him to the limelight when he recorded an impressive tally of 32 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks within a mere span of eight games – feats that won him the second-team All-SEC recognition. By the time he concluded his Vanderbilt journey, he had chalked up a formidable record of 125 tackles, 31.0 tackles for loss, and 12.0 sacks.

However, life threw a curveball at Dayo in the form of an achilles tendon injury while preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite this setback, his resolve remained unshaken. Mirroring his indomitable spirit, the Indianapolis Colts picked him in the second round as the 54th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. On May 2021, Dayo officially signed with the team, marking a major milestone. Nevertheless, the effects of his injury led him to be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list at the start of the 2021 season. But defying all odds, he pushed through and was activated on October 30.

Throwing himself into the game with tenacity, Dayo was a force to be reckoned with throughout the 2023 season. He participated in all 17 remarkable games, logging 38 tackles, and finished as the team’s third-highest performer with a commendable eight sacks.

Football flows through his family’s veins. His older brother, Dare Odeyingbo, too, took up the sport seriously, with his career taking him to Vanderbilt as well, and further, to play for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Currently, Dayo’s mother, Betty Odeyingbo, resides in Irving, Texas, constantly supporting her son’s exhilarating journey. Dayo’s life, peppered with challenges and victories, serves as an inspiration to many aspiring athletes, while his story continues to unfold on the thrilling fields of the NFL.
