Daurice Fountain's Biography

Daurice Fountain, born on December 22, 1995, is best known for his exceptional talent as an American professional football wide receiver. Known for his powerful strides and sharp delivery on the field, Fountain is presently a free agent.

An alumnus of Northern Iowa, he graced his college football career with stable performances and remarkable speed. Undoubtedly, his college football years were the stepping stones that ushered him into the professional realm. Fountain’s potential was beginning to shine through in 2017, when he amassed 943 receiving yards and nailed a commendable 12 touchdowns. His consistent performances led to his invitation to the prestigious East-West Shrine Game, where he outdid many of his counterparts and was acknowledged with the offensive MVP award. Despite this accolade, Fountain was overlooked by the NFL scouting combine— a decision that arguably served only to fuel his resolve.

In the 2018 NFL draft, Fountain found himself at the receiving end of an opportunity he had long dreamt of as he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round, as the 159th overall pick. However, the professional league did not give him a warm welcome. He was waived on September 1, 2018, but in a twist of fate, was signed to the practice squad the following day. His exemplary performance on the training field paid off on December 7, when he was upgraded to the active roster.

The rally to the top was not without its bumps, however. Come August 19, 2019, Fountain encountered a major setback in the form of an injury, which necessitated ankle surgery and led to a spell on the injured reserve. Fountain’s persistence and tenacity led to another window of opportunity when he signed a one-year exclusive-rights free agent tender with the team on March 31, 2020.

The ensuing months were marked by a mix of ups and downs. He was waived in September 2020, then re-signed to the practice squad, before being upgraded to the active roster later that month. Fountain experienced a key career moment in a game against the New York Jets when he landed his first career reception—a 12-yarder. Yet, life in the NFL kept proving to be a roller-coaster ride as he once again found himself waived by the end of October.

In November 2020, he saw another glimpse of the active roster for a game against the Baltimore Ravens, only to return to the practice squad afterward. His practice squad contract with the team concluded that season on January 18, 2021. Determined to stay in the game, Fountain signed a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on May 17, 2021. After his release in October, he was signed back to the practice squad, and then landed a reserve/future contract on February 2, 2022.

August 2022 brought another jolt when he was again waived by the Chiefs, marking another brief stint on the practice squad, followed by another taste of the active roster. He was released from the Chiefs in October 2022.

In a shift that saw him trading Kansas City for the Windy City, the Chicago Bears signed Fountain to their practice squad by the end of October 2022. This culminated in him being handed another reserve/future contract in January 2023. However, Fountain’s tenure with the Bears was fleeting, as he was released in August 2023.

On August 31, 2023, Fountain joined the Detroit Lions practice squad. This latest chapter of his career saw some positive signs as he was rewarded with a reserve/future contract in January 2024. Fountain, however, continues to grapple with the ruthless rollercoaster ride of professional football as he was released once again in August 2024. With his undying spirit and evidenced talent, the future still holds possibilities yet untapped for Fountain in the world of professional football.
