BIOGRAPHY

Dallin Leavitt, an American football safety, was born on 8th August 1994, and he has proven his skills both in the United States collegiate football, as well as the National Football League (NFL) as a free agent. His journey through the ranks of American football sprung from his initial high school days and continues to date.

Leavitt’s passion for football became evident during his high school years in Portland, Oregon, where he transferred from Westview High School to Central Catholic High School. Quickly gaining recognition as a formidable defensive back for the Rams, he rose to prominence due to his outstanding skill set. As a result, numerous colleges sought his services, but he eventually chose Brigham Young University (BYU) over potential offers from Stanford, UCLA, and Oregon during his sophomore year at high school. His contributions to his team didn’t go unnoticed in Oregon High School activities as he was named to the first-team all-state and was awarded the 6A co-Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season.

Leavitt’s college football career commenced at BYU, where he played for two seasons, started in 5 of his 24 games, and as a sophomore, made 43 tackles, 3.5 losses, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended in 11 games. As his sophomore season ended, he announced his transfer to Utah State University.

Upon transferring, Leavitt was sidelined for a season due to NCAA regulations. Nonetheless, he returned with a bang in his final two collegiate seasons, starting in all 21 games he played for the Aggies. He registered 151 tackles, 7 interceptions, 6 pass breakups, and 2.5 losses. In his senior year, he led from the front, with 94 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 5 pass breakups, earning the honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference. Over his collegiate career, Leavitt played 45 games, registered 211 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, and had 8 pass breakups.

Leavitt’s professional career started with the Oakland Raiders, signing as an undrafted free agent on 14th May 2018 after impressing during a rookie minicamp tryout. However, he was cut at the end of training camp and was re-signed to their practice squad on 2nd September that same year. His determination saw him rise to the Raiders’ active roster on 24th December 2018 following an injury to cornerback Daryl Worley, and he made his NFL debut that same night in a victory over the Denver Broncos, featuring 12 snaps on special teams and making a tackle.

In the 2019 season, Leavitt was part of the Raiders’ 53-man squad, mostly featuring on special teams and contributing 10 tackles in 15 games. He signed a one-year contract extension with the Raiders on 16th April 2020, only to be waived on 15th September 2020 before re-signing to the practice squad two days later. His hard work and perseverance saw him regain his position in the active roster on 2nd October 2020. A year later, on 8th March 2021, Leavitt signed another one-year extension with the Raiders, but was released on 20th July 2022.

Just five days after his release from Raiders, on 25th July 2022, Leavitt signed for the legendary Green Bay Packers and he was re-signed on 4th April 2023. However, his stint with the Packers was short-lived as he was released on 20th November the same year. On 28th November 2023, Leavitt got a lifeline when he was signed to the Denver Broncos’ practice squad, only to be released again on 19th December.

Off the pitch, Leavitt has a strong football lineage, with his father, Jared, having played as a linebacker for BYU from 1980 to 1984. He is married to Josie, a former Utah State soccer player, and they share an athletic journey together. Leavitt himself is also an Eagle Scout. The football tradition continues in his family, as his younger brother, Sam, is currently a quarterback at Arizona State University. Despite the rollercoaster nature of his professional journey, Leavitt remains a vibrant figure in the American football landscape.
